A mother of three was shot and killed as she left a bar in Cocoyea Village, San Fernando, yesterday morning.
Police said Khadijah Hackett, 30, of Couva, was liming with a female friend at a bar at the corner of Dallas Avenue and Cocoyea Main Road. She left the bar around 2 am and was heading towards her parked vehicle on the roadside when several shots rang out. Her friend found her lying on the road bleeding. Hackett was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital in her car. A doctor at the hospital contacted the police at 3.10 am informing them that they were treating a patient for a gunshot wound. She died at 5.17 am.
Hackett’s mother declined to be interviewed. An aunt said Hackett was still mourning the death of her five-year-old daughter two years ago from cancer. She said Hackett’s death was a double blow to the family, as they had not recovered from the child’s death.
Homicide Region 3 detectives were still trying to determine a motive for the murder.
Investigations are continuing.
