The Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) is advising customers served by the Caroni Water Treatment Plant that operations at the facility were restarted ahead of time at 8:00 a.m. today – Sunday 11th August 2024 and the supply was restored on the south system firstly, while the North system is currently being re-energised.
In a statement today, WASA congratulated all members of the various teams, who worked assiduously to execute a total of 24 different jobs, associated with critical electrical maintenance at the Caroni Plant, as well as key ancillary works along the Caroni North and South transmission pipeline network.
WASA said T&TEC must also be commended for the support provided during this exercise, in particular at the Caroni Plant and El Socorro Booster Station.
Additionally, the WASA’s new Operational Control Centre (OCC) played an integral role in data collection and monitoring the progress of planned works completed during the shutdown.
As the Authority continues the process of re-energizing the Caroni transmission/distribution pipeline network, this may result in a discoloured water supply.
WASA said it is currently carrying out flushing protocols throughout the network, which is expected to result in the system fully clearing over the next 24 hours.
“Customers who may be receiving a discoloured supply, are advised to let their taps run until it clears. Customers in most affected areas are expected to have their service restored over a 24 – 48-hour period, in accordance with established supply schedules.
However, some customers at the extremities of the distribution system, particularly at the furthest areas in South Trinidad, may experience longer delays in having their service restored.”
WASA said the amended water supply schedules to areas impacted by the planned shutdown, will be available on its website and social media pages.
