Mark Bas­sant

A YTC es­capee on the run from po­lice for more than a year and a half was ar­rest­ed ear­ly this morn­ing in the Las Cuevas dis­trict by of­fi­cers of the Spe­cial Op­er­a­tions Re­sponse Team(SORT).

In an op­er­a­tion head­ed by Com­mis­sion­er of Po­lice Gary Grif­fith and co-or­di­nat­ed by Sgt Mark Her­nan­dez of SORT- of­fi­cers held 22-year-old Ma­son Ran­jass­ingh at a house at #57 Rin­con Road, Las Cuevas around 4:40a.m in com­pa­ny with two oth­er men, af­ter ex­e­cut­ing a war­rant for firearms and am­mu­ni­tion.

The two oth­er men ages 34 and 43 were held by po­lice and could be charged with har­bour­ing a fugi­tive.

Ran­jass­ingh in Ju­ly 2018 had es­caped law­ful cus­tody while at­tend­ing a Best Vil­lage Com­pe­ti­tion at the Na­tion­al Acad­e­my of the Per­form­ing Arts(NA­PA) on Ju­ly 2018.

The es­capee was await­ing tri­al for the mur­der of 54-year-old Dul­raj De­o­dath, which al­leged­ly oc­curred in Jan­u­ary 2014.

Ran­jass­ingh was dis­cov­ered miss­ing in 2018, af­ter prison of­fi­cers con­duct­ed a head­count up­on ar­rival at NA­PA.

Be­fore his es­cape Ran­jass­ingh of Sea Trace, Bagatelle, Diego Mar­tin was de­scribed as a mod­el pris­on­er and was even on the prison in­mate men­tor­ing team.

The men sur­ren­dered to po­lice with­out any in­ci­dent.
