A YTC escapee on the run from police for more than a year and a half was arrested early this morning in the Las Cuevas district by officers of the Special Operations Response Team(SORT).
In an operation headed by Commissioner of Police Gary Griffith and co-ordinated by Sgt Mark Hernandez of SORT- officers held 22-year-old Mason Ranjassingh at a house at #57 Rincon Road, Las Cuevas around 4:40a.m in company with two other men, after executing a warrant for firearms and ammunition.
The two other men ages 34 and 43 were held by police and could be charged with harbouring a fugitive.
Ranjassingh in July 2018 had escaped lawful custody while attending a Best Village Competition at the National Academy of the Performing Arts(NAPA) on July 2018.
The escapee was awaiting trial for the murder of 54-year-old Dulraj Deodath, which allegedly occurred in January 2014.
Ranjassingh was discovered missing in 2018, after prison officers conducted a headcount upon arrival at NAPA.
Before his escape Ranjassingh of Sea Trace, Bagatelle, Diego Martin was described as a model prisoner and was even on the prison inmate mentoring team.
The men surrendered to police without any incident.
