T&T Prime Minister Dr the Honourable Keith Rowley convened a virtual meeting of the Caricom Prime Ministerial Sub-Committee on Cricket, yesterday. In April, T&T hosted the Caricom Regional Cricket Conference and Prime Minister Rowley commissioned a report on The Way Forward for West Indies Cricket. The sub-committee received the report, which was prepared by former West Indies captain Sir Clive Lloyd and former West Indies Vice Captain His Excellency Deryck Murray. The report covers the key areas of West Indies cricket, including grassroots development, school cricket, governance, and the Caribbean Premier League. President of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, His Excellency, Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali was present at the meeting and joined the President of Cricket West Indies (CWI), Dr Kishore Shallow and his vice president and president of the T&T Cricket Board Azim Bassarath, together with Presidents of Territorial Boards, and members of CWI Management in robust discussion on the report. Minister of Sport and Community Development, the Hon Shamfa Cudjoe-Lewis, Minister of Foreign and Caricom Affairs, Senator the Hon Dr Amery Browne and Minister of Tourism, Culture and the Arts Senator the Hon Randall Mitchell. Also in attendence was the chairman of SPORTT Larry Romany, and SporTT director Jeffrey Guillen and former West Indies women captian Merissa Aguilleira. Today’s meeting advanced the work for the second Caricom Cricket Symposium scheduled for next month in Guyana.
