The title race in the T&T Premier Football League will resume on Wednesday with a full slate of matches following a 12-day break due to the FIFA International Match Window during which time T&T fell 2-0 to Canada on March 23 in the Copa America Play-in match in Texas, USA.
With seven matches to play, AC Port-of-Spain, last season’s runners-up leads the 11-team standings with 28 points from 13 matches, two ahead of Miscellaneous Police who have played a match more followed by defending champions Defence Force with 26, Terminix La Horquetta Rangers with 23 while Tiger Tanks Club Sando, Prison Service and Point Fortin Civic are next with 22, 21 and 20 points from 14, 15, and 14 matches respectively.
On Wednesday, the Walt Noreiga-coached AC PoS will come up against second from bottom of the table Eagles FC, whom they edged 2-1 in the first round, in the opening match of a double-header at the Arima Municipal Stadium, Arima from 6 pm, and will be keen to rediscover their winning touch following a lacklustre 2-2 draw with cellar-placed Central FC in their last outing.
In the second match at Arima, Defence Force, coming off the wrong side of a seven-goal thriller with Heritage Petroleum Point Fortin FC last time out faces a tricky test against Caledonia who have been boosted by the addition of the league’s top scorer in Kevon ‘Showtime’ Woodley from Eagles, and are unbeaten in their last six matches.
Elsewhere, Police FC will make the journey south to face a confident Point Fortin Civic at the Mahaica Sporting Complex, Point Fortin from 6 pm with the visitors, coming off a 1-1 draw with Club Sando and needing a win to keep the pressure of AC PoS.
In the two other matches on today, Club Sando comes up against Prison Service in an early kick-off at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella from 4 pm while La Horquetta Rangers is at home to Central FC at Phase II La Horquetta Recreation Ground from 6 pm.
