Ja­heem Alexan­der and Joshua De Sil­va made strong bids for se­lec­tion on the coun­try’s elite youth team for the Caribbean Box­ing Cham­pi­onships in St Lu­cia from De­cem­ber 10–15, with wins on Sun­day at Skin­ner Park, San Fer­nan­do. 

The card was the last event on the lo­cal box­ing cal­en­dar and was cru­cial for the de­vel­op­ment of the sport, based on the pro­gram of the T&T Box­ing As­so­ci­a­tion. Alexan­der of the Gold­en Fist Box­ing Gym faced Shawn Ram­nath (Faith Box­ing Gym) in a 30-38kg con­test and did just enough to pre­vail on points. 

De Sil­va (Gold­en Fist), feed­ing on the tri­umph of Alexan­der, lat­er fol­lowed in his foot­steps by beat­ing Chris­t­ian Gomez on points soon af­ter to make a claim for se­lec­tion to the na­tion­al team. 

Mean­while, Kadeem Chan­dler (Faith BG) was al­so in the win­ner’s row when he dis­posed of Daniel Cara­bal­lo (Prodi­gy BG) on points, and Ko­zo Mar­tin de­stroyed Keifer Sande­ria of the De Sil­va Stars Box­ing Gym. 

There were al­so wins for An­ge­lo Al­leng of the Gold­en Fist Club, who brushed aside Ja­heem Gomez; Stephon Ali, who got the bet­ter of Alyion Dal­rym­ple of the Bio­mel Box­ing Gym on points; and Shalom Phillip, the Gold­en Fist Gym fight­er, who clob­bered Jemel Joseph in their 63.5-67 kg con­test. 

In two oth­er fights, Jadeon Castil­lano whipped Stan­ley Brooks in a 67-71kg bout, and Je­re­mi­ah Thomas, who rep­re­sent­ed T&T at the first World Box­ing Qual­i­fi­ca­tion Tour­na­ment for the Paris Olympics ear­li­er this year in Bus­to Ar­sizio, Italy, cruised to vic­to­ry on points against Codel Lee.
