HARARE, Zim­bab­we – West In­dies Women’s all-rounder Aaliyah Al­leyne be­lieves that once they stick to their game plans, they will be suc­cess­ful in their cur­rent ODI se­ries against Zim­bab­we Women.

West In­dies Women took a 1-0 lead in the three-match se­ries by win­ning Thurs­day’s open­ing ODI by 99 runs at the Harare Sports Club.

The two sides will meet again on Sun­day at the same venue, with the vis­i­tors know­ing that vic­to­ry will help them clinch the se­ries with a match to spare.

Al­leyne starred with the ball in the open­er, grab­bing 3-44 to help bowl out the home side for 200 in pur­suit of the Windies’ to­tal of 299 for six.

Speak­ing ahead of their cru­cial en­counter, Al­leyne said the team knows what they have to do to be suc­cess­ful.

“The con­di­tions were good for bat­ting, and we had dis­cussed be­fore­hand hit­ting our ar­eas, hit­ting the deck hard and at­tack­ing the stumps.

“I just think that once we stick to that plan and be pa­tient, we will be suc­cess­ful,” Al­leyne said.

She main­tained that even though the Windies were ranked sev­enth in the rank­ings, sev­en spots ahead of the 14th-ranked Zim­bab­weans, they would not al­low com­pla­cen­cy to creep in.

Al­leyne point­ed to Mod­ester Mu­pachik­wa’s fight­ing knock of 86 in the first ODI, and said she ex­pect­ed the home side to come out guns blaz­ing.

“We’ve dis­cussed not get­ting com­pla­cent. We know that part­ner­ships are go­ing to be built; the open­ing bat­ter bat­ted re­al­ly well in bat­ting right through the in­nings.

“…So we have to try not to get too flus­tered. You’re go­ing to get hit for a bound­ary or two, but we just have to stick to the team plan and en­joy it right through,” Al­leyne said.
