Fifty-two-year old cham­pi­on jock­ey of T&T Ricky Jadoo took the 2018 Jock­ey's Cham­pi­onship ti­tle af­ter a gru­elling bat­tle with Bri­an Boodram­s­ing which end­ed on Box­ing Day last year. Jadoo took the ho­n­our when he re­pelled the chal­lenge of Boodram­s­ing to hold on by one win.

Jadoo cre­at­ed his­to­ry by be­com­ing the old­est jock­ey to win the Trinidad Der­by, when he pi­lot­ed the Glenn Mendez trained Mer­lin Sam­lals­ingh owned Cape Canaver­al to vic­to­ry on Re­pub­lic Day - Sep­tem­ber 24th.

Glenn Mendez be­came the cham­pi­on train­er in both cat­e­gories, Wins and Earn­ings, as he pro­duced Cape Canaver­al to win the Der­by in im­pres­sive fash­ion.

The cham­pi­on own­er was again Shiv­am Ma­haraj who has now as­sumed con­trol of this award. Ma­haraj thir­ty-two hors­es scored 34 wins for earn­ings of $1,386.9998 in­clud­ing the Gold Cup which was won by his Nu­clear Pow­er.

How­ev­er, the race­horse which topped the Earn­ing’s cat­e­go­ry was the John O’Brien trained Gen­er­al JN which was beat­en in the Der­by by Cape Canaver­al. Gen­er­al Jn scored four vic­to­ries and fin­ished one sec­ond and one fourth from six starts to earn $296,316 for the year. Cape Canaver­al which has raced un­beat­en in four starts was just some $23,000 back in sec­ond.
