Burn­ley Ath­let­ics Club’s Des­tiny Arnold emerged as the most out­stand­ing ath­lete at the Max­imis­ing Ath­let­ic Po­ten­tial (MAP) Ju­ve­nile Track and Field Cham­pi­onships at the Man­nie Ramjohn Sta­di­um, Mara­bel­la, dur­ing the week­end of May 3-4.

Arnold se­cured four vic­to­ries as she raced to the girls’ Un­der-13 100-me­tre and 200m sprints, leapt to the long jump crown and se­cured the Vor­tex (ju­ve­nile javelin) throw ti­tle. She topped the 100m field in 13.3 sec­onds (hand time) ahead of Sa­ree Tay­lor (Ma­son Hall Po­lice Youth) with 14.3 and Con­corde’s Ker­ni­ah Prescod with 14.3.

In the 200m, Arnold crossed the line in 28.0 with An­naleez Mus­sio (Abi­lene Wild­cats), 28.1 and Jo­han­na Hug­gins (FAD), 28.6, tak­ing the mi­nor places on the podi­um.

Arnold pre­vailed in the long jump (4.56m) with Sofia Snag­gs of Point Fortin (4.28) land­ing sil­ver and Tay­lor (3.47), the bronze medal.

She com­plet­ed her quadru­ple win, claim­ing the Vor­tex throw with a dis­tance of 17.12m. Adri­anne Williams Lendor of To­co TAFAC cap­tured the run­ner-up spot (16.81).

Arnold’s four gold medal-haul led the way for her Burn­ley club, which topped the medal ta­ble with 14 ti­tles, eight more than the next best team, Sim­plex (six). Her team­mate Za­muel Woodruffe was a triple win­ner with an­oth­er Burn­ley duo of Khari John and Jael Pe­ters grab­bing two gold medals each.

Woodruffe blazed his way to the top spot in the boys’ U-11 80m (11.5), 150m (22.4) dash­es and long jump (4.00).

John took care of the boys’ U-13 100m (13.6) and 800m (2:36.9) and missed out on a third gold when he had to set­tle for third in 400m.

Pe­ters out-sprint­ed her ri­vals to se­cure the girls’ U-15 100m (12.5) and 200m (25.9). Ak­i­lah Chi­napoo (Sim­plex) and Ka­ley Wilt­shire (Abi­lene Wild­cats) were sec­ond and third, re­spec­tive­ly, in both races.

Isa­iah Tees­dale was the top per­former for the red and white Sim­plex youths when he was tri­umphant in the boys’ U-15 100m (11.3) and 200m (22.6) sprints. He came close to a trio of wins, but he was beat­en in­to sec­ond place in the 400m.

Abi­lene Wild­cats bagged four wins with Sanah Malchan (10.4) and Des­tiny Gue­vara (22.8) record­ing im­pres­sive wins in the girls’ U-11 80m and 150m, re­spec­tive­ly.

An­toniya Tay­lor of Princes Town made her mark at the meet with dou­ble gold by girls U-9 60m (9.8) and 80m (13.0).

The next event on the lo­cal track and field cal­en­dar is the Re­pub­lic Bank Re­lays at the Hase­ly Craw­ford Sta­di­um, Mu­cu­rapo, on Sun­day (May 18).
