The pair of Cheyenne Awai of (Heatwave CC) and Benjamin Mouttet of Breakaway CC warmed up with victories ahead of the National Criterium Championships Elite categories, which is scheduled to take place later this year.

At Sunday’s T&T Cycle Federation’s Road Race Criterium Keep Fit Series at the Trincity Industrial Estate, Awai got the better of a four-woman field in the 8-Lap Elite division for the gold medal, to add to the series of successes she has had for the year.

Awai crossed the finish line ahead of Marsha Trepte of Raiders Cycle and Multisport Club, who followed closely behind in the second position, while third was Kanika Paul-Payne, the national champion in the Individual Pursuit.

The men’s criterium consisted of a 35-Lap grind which Mouttet led from the start and eventually sealed the win in, as he represented the Breakaway club. The field consisted of 18 riders but Mouttet only had nine to compete against as nine others did not finish the race.

Following Mouttet, was Maurice Burnette who rode unattached while Josias Valasquez of the Heatwave club stormed home for third and the bronze medal.
