Chris­ton Bap­tiste scored a beau­ty to help Old Timers edge One Is One in the sec­ond match of a dou­ble­head­er in the Ty­ro Sports Club Over-45 and Over sev­en-a-side hock­ey-size foot­ball league at Gab­ba Grounds in Low­er San­ta Cruz on Sun­day.

Bap­tiste, off the first touch of the ball, hit from the half line and swerved the ball scor­ing past the One Is One keep­er to give the Old Timers unit its sixth straight win from as many match­es to move to the top of the stand­ings, dis­plac­ing pre­vi­ous­ly un­beat­en Tor­na­does.

Both Old Timers and Tor­na­does have 18 points but the lat­ter dropped its last match to Fire 45 in the open­ing match on Sun­day.

Hay­don Du­mas and Shel­don Franklin net­ted a goal each to help Fire 45 to a 2-1 win over Tor­na­does. Bri­an Find­ley scored the lone item for the los­ing side.

On the week­end, Old Timers team sealed back-to-back wins open­ing with a 3-1 vic­to­ry over Syax off a dou­ble from Mar­vin Lee in the first match of a dou­ble-head­er on Sat­ur­day. Kevin Coo was the oth­er play­er on tar­get for the win­ner.

For Syax, Nigel Reyes was the scor­er.

In the sec­ond match, Live­pool got its first win of the sea­son de­feat­ing win­less Pun­cheon Ef­fect, 2-0 to move off the bot­tom of the 12-team ta­ble in­to 10th spot af­ter six rounds of match­es. Goals came from Sean Fran­cis and Lawrence Par­ris.

Teams are seek­ing to qual­i­fy for the “Big 8” as the cham­pi­on will re­ceive $3,500 with a tro­phy plus a repli­ca. The next three places will be present a tro­phy with sec­ond place get­ting $1,500, third $500 and fourth $400. The first-round win­ner will re­ceive $500 plus a tro­phy. Three play­ers be­tween 40-44 years can play at one time.

As of now for­mer in­ter­na­tion­al Hec­tort Sam of Tor­na­does is the lead­ing goal-scor­er among the un­der 45 play­ers with with 13 while his old­er broth­er and team­mate Vic­tor leads the over 45s with five.
