BRIDGETOWN, Barbados – Former Barbados all-rounder Kenroy Williams passed away at his home on Monday after a long battle with breast cancer.
The 40-year-old middle-order batsman and off-spinner played First Class and List A cricket for Barbados and also represented Jamaica in the WICB Professional 4-Day competition in the 2018-2019 season.
Williams also had one appearance with the West Indies ‘B’ team.
Both the Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) and the West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA) paid tribute to Williams.
“What an innings. What a fight.
“On behalf of the Board of Directors, management and staff, we offer our sincere condolences to the loved ones of Kenroy Williams,” the BCA said on its Instagram page.
“He will always be remembered for his courage and fighting spirit on and off the field. May he Rest in Peace.”
Meanwhile, on its Facebook page a statement from WIPA read, “We are deeply saddened by the passing of Kenroy Williams. Kenroy was an exemplary sportsman on and off the field, he fought a good fight.
“May his soul rest in peace and light perpetual shine upon him. To Kenroy’s family, friends, and the entire cricketing fraternity, please accept our deepest condolences.”
In his regional career which spanned 15 years from 2004 to 2019, Williams played 29 First Class matches, scoring 915 runs, inclusive of four half centuries, at an average of 20.33, with his highest score being 82.
He also took 47 wickets at an average of 29.12, with one five-wicket haul.
Williams also played 19 List A matches where he scored 240 runs at an average of 17.14, while also taking seven wickets.
