National Under-16 netballer Amara Bhagan were among the shooters leading St Joseph’s Convent San Fernando (SJCSF) to a huge 65-1 win over Open Bible High in the Under-20 Division of the Victoria District of the Secondary Schools Netball League at the Southern Regional Indoor Sports Arena in Pleasantville on Monday.
Bhagan, who was part of the T&T U-16 team that won the Caribbean Netball Association’s Jean Pierre Youth Championships for the first time, hit 28 goals from 48 attempts as the opening goal-attack. Opening goal-shooter Tye-Sha Grant netted 12 goals from 23 tries.
The duo was replaced by Sinéad Viña Pérez (6/12) and Tzeya Hicks (19/27), respectively, who combined for 25 goals for the winning team in the lopsided match to move SJCSF to two wins from as many matches after also comfortably defeating San Fernando Central, 59-2, on October 1. The shooting quartet were also key in that opening win.
For Open Bible High, goal-shooter Neysa Johnson connected the lone goal from two attempts.
In the U-20 match, Pleasantville outplayed San Fernando (San F’do) Central, 42-2, thanks to the shooting from Katelyn Dukhoo. The goal-shooter produced a match-high 34 goals from 46 tries. Goal-attack Felicia Alexander, who did a good job feeding her shooter while adding eight in 19. It was also the second victory for Pleasantville, which opened with a 41-2 win against Open Bible High.
For San F’do Central, goal-attack Chelsea Maharaj netted the two goals from eight attempts.
San F’do Central also suffered defeat in the 13 and Under Division, as its shooters struggled, falling to SJCSF Team A, 21-0. Arianna Dubé (13/17) and Gabrielle Spencer (8/10) were the shooters for the winner.
It was quite a successful day for SJCSF as its team in the 15 and Under category also celebrated its first win of the season, taking down Pleasantville, 28-2. Last Week, SJCSF was edged by San F’do Central, 13-12.
This time around, led by the shooting of goal-attack Rane Eduardo with 18 goals from 23 attempts, SJCSF pulled off the win.
The teams will be back in action next Wednesday (October 15) at the same venue from 9 am.
