For­mer West In­dies all-rounder Dwayne Bra­vo has bashed Dave Cameron’s pre­vi­ous Crick­et West In­dies regime for re­tard­ing the growth of ther re­gion­al team and pre­vent­ing it from mak­ing the kind of progress it should have made in the last five years.

His com­ment came yes­ter­day as he con­grat­u­lat­ed new­ly-ap­point­ed Windies skip­per and friend Kieron Pol­lard, coach Phil Sim­mons and the team on their 47-run vic­to­ry over Afghanistan in In­dia, which helped them earn their first se­ries win in the ODI for­mat since 2014 when they whipped Bangladesh 3-0 in the Caribbean.

Shar­ing in the joy­ous mo­ment, Bra­vo said: “Con­grat­u­la­tions to the team. It has been five years since we have not won an ODI se­ries and the boys have now done this. I am a for­mer West In­dies crick­eter but I may soon come out of in­ter­na­tion­al re­tire­ment.”

Bra­vo, who is re­cov­er­ing from a fin­ger surgery that kept him out of the en­tire 2019 Hero CPL, said he was hap­py with the win. He warned the fans not to get too ex­cit­ed but ad­vised them to stay tuned as bet­ter days are ahead.

“Let me tell you all that you can’t think that West In­dies crick­et is now back to where we want it to be. What we have here are the right peo­ple in the right places and we are point­ing in the right di­rec­tion.”

While the video was ob­vi­ous­ly a cel­e­bra­to­ry one meant to laud the cur­rent team’s ef­fort, Bra­vo could not re­sist tak­ing a jab at the pre­vi­ous regime, which was led by Cameron.

“West In­dies crick­et has suf­fered at the hands of vin­dic­tive peo­ple who were bent on keep­ing cer­tain peo­ple away from the team, end­ing many ca­reers. How­ev­er, there is a God and every rope has an end.

“The longest rope in the world has an end and it is good to see,” Bra­vo said.

“These are the same play­ers but what you have dif­fer­ent now is that there is a change at the very top and this has caused a lot of pos­i­tives.

“The neg­a­tiv­i­ty that sur­round­ed West In­dies crick­et is no longer there and we are look­ing for­ward to tak­ing West In­dies crick­et back to the top. Again, con­grat­u­la­tions to the team and keep go­ing from strength to strength.”

Al­though he did not call any names di­rect­ly, Bra­vo said, “The vin­dic­tive­ness, the jeal­ousy, the bad mind and the at­ti­tude that I am the boss. You all know who I am talk­ing about.

“Have a clean heart, a clean mind, be re­spect­ful and have the right at­ti­tude for the peo­ple of the Caribbean. Mr Pol­lard, Ja­son Hold­er and coach Phil Sim­mons have the per­fect op­por­tu­ni­ty to turn West In­dies crick­et around for the West In­dies peo­ple who have been suf­fer­ing over the last cou­ple of years.

“The last five years were the worst for West In­dies crick­et and just a few peo­ple with egos and bad in­ten­tions try­ing their best dis­rupt the play­ers.”

Cameron was re­placed by Ricky Sker­ritt in March of this year af­ter the CWI ex­ec­u­tive vot­ed 8-4 in a se­cret bal­lot to re­place the then in­cum­bent Cameron.
