Canoe sprint athlete Josiah Clarke will open T&T's participation at the inaugural Junior Pan American Games in Cali, Colombia which starts Thursday and runs until December 5.
He will compete in the men's K1 (one paddler) 1,000 metres with one pushing off at 7 am (T&T time) at Lake Calima - Club Nautico, followed by serie two, seven minutes later. The semifinals are carded for Friday and the finals on Saturday.
Friday at the Hernando Botero O'Byrne pools, swimmers Kael Yorke, Gabriela Donahue and Graham Chatoor will be in action on day two of the Under-23 Games in Cali, Colombia. The trio is among the overseas quartet which also includes Zarek Wilson.
Yorke dives into action in event six, in the men's 200 metres butterfly while Chatoor is down to swim in the men's 400m freestyle, and Donahue will follow in the women’s 100m breaststroke.
Yorke who is in the midst of a stellar season at the University of Indianapolis along with countrymen Jeron Thompson and Aqeel Joseph is scheduled to also swim in the 100m butterfly as well as the 400m freestyle.
A student-athlete at New York University, Chatoor will also swim in the 100m, 200m, 800m and 1,500 metres freestyle heats and Donahue, who attends the University of Nebraska will compete in the 100m backstroke, 100m breaststroke, 100m freestyle, 200m freestyle and 200m individual medley.
Wilson, who attends JP Taravella High School in Central Springs, Florida will compete in the 50m, 100m, and 200m freestyle events along with the 100m butterfly, and 100m backstroke.
They joined Nikoli Blackman of Marlins and Ornella Walker of YMC Tobago, who are the two locally-based swimmers selected among six to represent T&T at the inaugural Under-23 Games.
Blackman will compete in the men’s 50 metres, 100m, 400m, 800m and 1,500m while Walker will swim in the women’s 100m and 200m backstroke events.
Competition at the Games began on Tuesday but the opening ceremony takes place Thursday.
