Club Sando improves bid for semis

Tiger Tank Club San­do has moved with­in touch­ing dis­tance of se­cur­ing a place in the semi­fi­nal round of the First Cit­i­zens Cup.

Need­ing to be among the top two teams to ad­vance out of the Im­mortelle Group, the south­ern­ers whipped Mor­vant Cale­do­nia Unit­ed 4-2 Wednes­day night to move to eight points, and draw lev­el with lead­ers Cunu­pia FC which en­joy a su­pe­ri­or goal dif­fer­ence for the top spot.

Keron Corn­wall's hat-trick in the 49th, 85th and 92nd min­utes, cou­pled with an­oth­er item by Kevon Williams in the 35th sealed the Club San­do vic­to­ry.

Now with just one more round of match­es to go, both Club San­do and Cunu­pia need a point each to ad­vance to the fi­nal four.

Third-place San Juan Jabloteh, with five points is the on­ly team that can move to eight with a vic­to­ry over Cale­do­nia Unit­ed to­mor­row at the Ato Boldon Sta­di­um in Cou­va from 4 pm.

In the Aber­crom­bie Group, Cen­tral FC has al­so made a strong bid for one of two top po­si­tions by beat­ing W Con­nec­tion 2-1 at the Hase­ly Craw­ford Sta­di­um in Mu­cu­rapo. Shirio John­son and Niel Williams found the nets to se­cure full points for the win­ners.

The re­sult took the cen­tral men to sev­en points in the third po­si­tion but still in need of a vic­to­ry in their fi­nal game to ad­vance, as sec­ond-place Po­lice are al­so on sev­en.

Ter­minix La Hor­quet­ta Ranger has al­ready sealed the top spot in the group with 12 points, which means that they can­not be caught.
