De Gannes honoured with Austin Sealy award

T&T's Janae De Gannes was ad­judged the win­ner of the fa­mous Austin Sealy award af­ter her record-break­ing per­for­mance dur­ing the Un­der-20 Girls' Long Jump event, in which she leaped 6.50 me­tres on her first at­tempt at the Ki­rani James Ath­let­ics Sta­di­um, Grena­da, on Mon­day.

De Gannes im­proved on Ya­nis David's 6.48 me­tres set in 2016, al­so in Grena­da. She al­so won a re­lay sil­ver medal in the Un­der 20 Girls' 4x400 me­tres re­lay in 3:47.51 sec­onds, run­ning the an­chor leg.

She joins for­mer sprint­er Dar­rell Brown who won the ho­n­our in 1999 and 2000, mid­dle-dis­tance run­ner Garvin Nero (2005), and hur­dler Je­hue Gor­don (2010).

Gor­don is the man­ag­er of the 2024 team.
