FC Santa Rosa and Queen’s Park Cricket Club will have to wait until next week’s final match of the season to determine the 2018 T&T Super League champions after both teams picked up contrasting wins in the penultimate round of matches. FC Santa Rosa has 60 points and QPCC 57.
With the Parkites picking up a default win over Metal X Erin FC to move to 51 points from 25 matches, the onus was on FC Santa Rosa to get maximum points against struggling San Fernando Giants, which they did courtesy a 4-1 triumph on Friday night at the Arima Municipal Stadium in Arima.
However, it was the Giants who stunned the host early on when Jeremy Primus fired in a ninth-minute go-ahead item to rattle Santa Rosa nerves.
But just as he has done all season long, Kishun Seecharan came up with a timely strike, his 13th of the campaign, to get FC Santa Rosa level in the 12th.
Seven minutes later Noel Williams got the much deserved go-ahead item for Santa which they took into the interval before Williams again netted in the 66th for a 3-1 cushion with his tenth goal of the season.
Akeem Garcia then capped off the win for FC Santa Rosa with a 90th-minute goal to help carry his team to 60 points from 25 matches, three ahead of the Parkites (57) which will have today off after picking up the default win against Erin FC.
Today, two matches are on schedule with Prison Service versus Cunupia FC, and Petit Valley/Diego Martin United against Bethel United.
