Fire Ser­vices will be look­ing to rule in the Fast5 com­pe­ti­tion, set to un­fold in the Courts All Sec­tors Net­ball League on Sat­ur­day at the East­ern Re­gion­al In­door Sports Are­na in Tacarigua.

Last Sat­ur­day, the fire of­fi­cers dom­i­nat­ed the Pre­mier­ship Di­vi­sion's Steve Sargeant Chal­lenge to re­tain the knock­out ti­tle af­ter de­feat­ing the Uni­ver­si­ty of T&T (UTT) in the fi­nal, 41-27.

The shoot­ing com­bi­na­tion of goal-shoot­er (GS) Afeisha Noel and goal-at­tack (GA) Joelisa Coop­er were un­stop­pable, lead­ing Fire to its third crown of the sea­son, al­ready cop­ping the round-robin league and open­ing day knock­out tour­na­ment.

Noel was in top form con­nect­ing 29 goals from 34 at­tempts, while Coop­er fed her shoot­er well while con­nect­ing 12 of 13 tries for the Fire team, which led 23-13 at half­time.

Goal-shoot­er Shaniya Mor­gan (8/12) and goal-at­tack Kali­fa Mc­Collin Lopez (8/9) opened shoot­ing in the cir­cle for UTT be­fore Kathy-Ann Gra­ham (11/15) re­placed the for­mer in the bib but it was not enough to bounce back, falling away by 14 goals in the 20-minute-a-half com­pe­ti­tion.

Ear­li­er teams in the Cham­pi­onship Di­vi­sion, bat­tled in the Jean Pierre Chal­lenge (15 min­utes a half) and it was Unit Trust Cor­po­ra­tion (UTC) Sparks, boost­ed by the shoot­ing of Lil­i­ah Matthews with 20 in 26, nar­row­ly de­feat­ing Fire, 22-20, in the fi­nal.

For Fire, Nari­ba Grant was the lead­ing scor­er with 12 goals in 17 at­tempts.

On Tues­day, the Uni­ver­si­ty of South­ern Caribbean (USC) emerged the win­ner of the Al­ter­na­tive Di­vi­sion knock­out com­pet­ing af­ter edg­ing MIC Tigers, 15-14 in the fi­nal.

Thurs­day, teams in the Retro Di­vi­sion will com­pete for their knock­out crown.

On Sat­ur­day, teams in both the Cham­pi­onship and Pre­mier­ship Di­vi­sions will be back on the court, com­pet­ing for their re­spec­tive Fast5 ti­tles.
