Unbeaten Friends 4 Life survived a last ball scare from winless Universal Flippers to book a spot in the semifinals of the Harvard Sports Club April Fest Indoor Windball Cricket Eight Overs Per Side League semifinals at the Harvard Sports Club Basketball Courts, Tragarete Road, Port of Spain, on Saturday (May 16).
Batting first, former finalists Universal Flippers posted a challenging 37 runs for seven wickets in 7.5 overs, with Ian Charles stroking his way to ten runs while Kevon Ramdhanie made six and Leon Pollard five.
Bowling for Friends 4 Life, who topped their preliminary round-robin pool with four wins from as many matches, Shane Ramnanan picked up two wickets for eight runs, while Devon Victor and Juan Carlos Narine got one wicket each for two and five runs, respectively.
In their chase of the target, Friends 4 Life were kept in check all the way and needed eight runs off the final over bowled by Sheldon Lloyd to secure the victory, which they managed to get to secure the nail-biting win and earn their semifinal spot where they will meet Travellers Sports Club from 9.30 pm on Friday, May 22.
Nigel Hitlal was the top scorer for Friends 4 Life with eight runs, with Danraj Mohan adding seven and Avinash Dookran, three, while Devin Wallace, Dexter Ramdhanie and Dwayne James got a wicket each in the losing effort.
Travellers Sports Club won their quarterfinal against One Bounce by seven wickets in Saturday’s second match to earn their final-four spot, while D Drinks Spot comes up against Himalaya Sports Club in the second semifinal after their contrasting quarterfinal win on Friday.
This was after Not Jus Fun defeated Himalaya Sports Club by eight runs but was then disqualified for the use of an ineligible player, while D Drinks Spot whipped D Crushers by 24 runs.
The winners of the semifinals on Friday, May 22, will return the following day for the final, while the semifinal losers face off in the third-place playoff.
