Guerra leads Straker Nets to North Zone opening day 3x3 trophy

Sadi­ki Guer­ra top­scored with 10 points to lead Strak­er Nets A to the 3x3 ti­tle to open the 2025 sea­son of the Kelvin Roberts North Zone Bas­ket­ball Com­mis­sion’s League at the Wood­brook Youth Fa­cil­i­ty in Port-of-Spain on Sun­day.

Strak­er A edged Elite Love of the Coach KG Elite club, 19-18, in the fi­nal in the Open com­pe­ti­tion which fea­tured 14 teams.

Guer­ra had sup­port from Chike Au­gus­tine, who was part of the T&T’s 3x3 bronze-medal win­ning team at the 2023 Pan Amer­i­can Games in San­ti­a­go, Chile, Ama­ree Toney and Gari Bar­clay. The quar­tet de­feat­ed Ba­sic Bas­ket­ball Acad­e­my, 21-18, in the semi­fi­nals to reach the ti­tle match.

The oth­er fi­nal­ist Elite Love, which in­clud­ed Kern George, Alex­ie Alex­is, JJ Ed­wards-Carac­ci­o­lo and Cris­t­ian Far­num, out­played Strak­er B, 21-12.

The League, which is named af­ter late North Zone ad­min­is­tra­tor Kelvin “Rob­bie” Roberts, for his un­selfish con­tri­bu­tions to­wards bas­ket­ball across T&T, will fea­ture three di­vi­sions - first, Un­der-17 and Over-45.

Strak­er Nets will be back to de­fend its First Di­vi­sion ti­tle af­ter emerg­ing as the win­ner last sea­son in the Zone’s In­vi­ta­tion­al Tour­na­ment. The oth­er teams in the top di­vi­sion are De­fence Force, Spar­tans TT, Coach KG Elite, To­geth­er­ness, Trail­blaz­er, Mal­oney Pac­ers, Roy­al­ty and Ba­sic Bas­ket­ball Acad­e­my.

Reign­ing U-17 cham­pi­on Spar­tans TT will aim to re­peat. They will face off against Roy­al­ty, Mal­oney Pac­ers, Ba­sic Bas­ket­ball Acad­e­my and Coach KG (CKG) Elite in the U-17 cat­e­go­ry while the O-45 Di­sion will de­but with four teams in­clud­ing Vet­er­ans Sweaters, NFM Vet­er­ans, Mal­oney Vet­er­ans and De­fence Force V.

League ac­tion starts to­day with a dou­ble-head­er in the First Di­vi­sion. De­fence Force will face Roy­al­ty at 7.30 pm and lat­er, Ba­sic Bas­ket­ball Acad­e­my meets CKG Elite at 8.30 pm.
