T&T's Tianna Guy will step into the boxing ring tonight at the National Cycling Centre in Couva when the Headliner international boxing event gets going from 7 pm.
The event, which will be a mixture of culture, entertainment and sport, brings together kickboxing, stick fighting and a couple of bouts in the undercard, all before Guy steps into the ring.
She will face Grecia Nova Mateo of the Dominican Republic. Speaking at the weigh-in at the East Gates Mall, Trincity, on Friday afternoon, she expressed gratitude and excitement as this is going to be her first international opponent since 2019 on home soil.
She said, "I'm feeling excited and nervous, which is normal as I have learned to deal with it. I'm grateful for all the support I'm getting from each and every sponsor and I want everyone to come out and support the event.
With the next Olympic Games scheduled to be hosted in Los Angeles, USA in 2028, she said she is using this to jump-start her Olympic journey.
Speaking about her opponent, she said, "Nova is a very experienced fighter who has fought some of the big names in the sport, namely Tiara Brown, who is the current WBC World title holder. I wanted to test myself against the best, hence we selected her as she is definitely a worthy opponent."
The national boxer urged all to come out and support.
