Former T&T senior women’s volleyballer Sinead Jack and her Eczacibasi Dynavit team suffered their first defeat in the Turkish Vodafone Sultan Ligi after losing in straight sets to rivals Fenerbache Medicana in their top-of-table clash on Saturday (October 26).
Both clubs entered the match-up with perfect 4-0 records, but in the end, Fenerbache Medicana, led by the offence of Cuban-born Turkish women’s international Melissa Vargas’ 24 points, inclusive of four aces, won 25-19, 25-20, 26-24 in 93 minutes.
Ana Cristina De Souza added 14 points for Fenerbache Medicana, while Hristina Vuchkova got seven and Melih Dekin got five in the win, their fifth from as many matches this season, all in straight sets (3-0) to improve to a maximum of 15 points, level with Galatasaray Daikin, who also remained flawless with a fifth straight sets victory, 25-20, 25-21, 25-17 against Bahcelievler Bld.
For Dynavit, Serbian Tijana Boskovic led with 15 points while Hande Baladin got 14, Jack nine, and Yaprak Erkik got seven in the loss as they dropped to 4-1 on the season, level on 12 points with Turk Hava Yollari, while Vakifbank, which also has a 4-1 record, is fifth with 11 points.
Jack and her clubmates will have a quick turnaround as they ninth placed Aydin (2-3) who have six points today (Tuesday, October 29) before meeting Turk Hava Yollari on Saturday, November 2.
Jack and her club will once again compete in the Women’s Volleyball Champions League Group Stage and have been drawn in Pool B alongside Obrenovac of Serbia, Paris St Cloud of France, and Germany’s Schweriner, with their first match set for Wednesday, November 6 at home to the Serbians.
