Amir Jangoo’s outstanding performances for the West Indies made him the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board’s (TTCB) International Player of the Year at the board’s annual national awards ceremony, which was held at the Dennis P. Ramdhan Complex in Mc Bean, Couva, on Wednesday evening.
Jangoo enjoyed a prolific year on the international stage, highlighted by a magnificent 233 in the first Test match against Sri Lanka in July, his maiden hundred in the format. The match-saving knock formed part of a 401-run sixth-wicket partnership with captain Roston Chase, the largest in Test cricket history.
During the second ODI against India on September 30, 2026, Jangoo hit a 70-ball century, which was his second in the format, eventually scoring a career-high 114, as the West Indies put on a team record 405 in the first innings.
In five ODIs during the 2026 calendar year, Jangoo scored one century and three half-centuries in five matches at an impressive average of 78. In the longer format, he amassed 306 runs from six innings while averaging 51.
The left-handed batsman and part-time wicket-keeper was unable to attend the ceremony, as he is currently in India with the West Indies T20 team.
Wednesday’s ceremony celebrated the achievements of players across the international, national, club and youth levels, highlighting the depth of cricketing talent in Trinidad and Tobago.
Red Force captain and wicket-keeper/batsman Joshua Da Silva also missed the awards presentation after being named National Player of the Year. Da Silva played a leading role in Trinidad and Tobago’s successful West Indies Championship campaign, scoring 413 runs at an average of 59. His contribution included a superb 220 against the Leeward Islands Hurricanes, as the Red Force captured their first regional first-class title in 20 years.
Da Silva’s performances also earned him a recall to the West Indies Test team in July, and he is now on his way to Bangladesh for the upcoming two-match series later this month.
Ricky Jaipaul was another major winner on the night, taking home the TTCB Premiership Player of the Year award after claiming 77 wickets across all competitions.
The left-arm spinner, who represents Marchin Patriots, enjoyed an outstanding season, helping his club capture the 50-over title while continuing to trouble batsmen at the national level. His performances also earned him a recall to the Trinidad and Tobago Red Force squad.
In the women’s category, Karishma Ramharack was named International Player of the Year in recognition of her contribution to the West Indies Women’s team, where she was instrumental in helping the regional side reach the semi-finals of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. The spinner was also unable to attend the ceremony.
Powergen women’s bowler, Leandra Ramdeen, claimed the Women’s Premiership Player of the Year award after taking 43 wickets during the season.
Nu-Iron Queen’s Park Cricket Club was named Club of the Year as the Tragerete Road team captured the Premier League Division I convincingly, winning seven out of eight matches, before adding the T20 Festival trophy to their cabinet.
Wednesday night’s function also recognised the contributions of several young cricketers who continued to make their mark in the domestic game. Saveer Deonarine was named Under-13 Cricketer of the Year, while Arnaldo Premchand received the Under-15 award. Mickhel Sookdeo was recognised as the Under-17 Cricketer of the Year, and Brendan Boodoo took the Under-19 honour.
Special recognition was also paid to Trinidad and Tobago Women’s Cricket Association president Marjorie Thomas for her outstanding contribution to women’s cricket in Trinidad and Tobago and the wider West Indies over the past 25 years.
Thomas has played a significant role in developing and promoting the women’s game, helping to create opportunities for female cricketers to represent their country.
