Jones names 22-player squad to face Nicaragua

T&T se­nior women’s team head coach Ken­wyne Jones an­nounced his 22-play­er team that will face Nicaragua for the up­com­ing 2022 Con­ca­caf World Cham­pi­onship, which serves as a qual­i­fy­ing com­pe­ti­tion for the 2023 Fi­fa Women’s World Cup and the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on Thurs­day at the Hase­ly Craw­ford Sta­di­um, Mu­cu­paro from 3 pm.

Jones and his new­ly ap­point­ed as­sis­tant coach Car­los Ed­wards se­lect­ed a squad that com­prised three goal­keep­ers, six de­fend­ers, eight mid­field­ers and five for­wards. He al­so made good on his promise to not re­serve a place on his team for for­mer Women So­ca War­riors cap­tain Maylee At­tin-John­son, 35, and star for­ward Ken­nya ‘Yaya’ Cord­ner, 33, who he has rec­om­mend­ed that the Trinidad and To­ba­go Foot­ball As­so­ci­a­tion (TTFA) should con­sid­er recog­nis­ing the duo for their tremen­dous ser­vice to the coun­try and the lo­cal game.

Jones, a for­mer na­tion­al ju­nior and se­nior play­er and cap­tain, made his de­ci­sion to look be­yond At­tin-John­son and Cord­ner af­ter al­leged so­cial-me­dia post­ings which did not sit well with him and the TTFA.

Mean­while, Keep­er Kimi­ka Forbes is one of five play­ers from Po­lice FC in the team, while the team's youngest play­er is 20-year-old Maria-Frances Ser­rant, who plays for Cor­ban Uni­ver­si­ty in the USA.
