T&T senior women’s team head coach Kenwyne Jones announced his 22-player team that will face Nicaragua for the upcoming 2022 Concacaf World Championship, which serves as a qualifying competition for the 2023 Fifa Women’s World Cup and the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on Thursday at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucuparo from 3 pm.
Jones and his newly appointed assistant coach Carlos Edwards selected a squad that comprised three goalkeepers, six defenders, eight midfielders and five forwards. He also made good on his promise to not reserve a place on his team for former Women Soca Warriors captain Maylee Attin-Johnson, 35, and star forward Kennya ‘Yaya’ Cordner, 33, who he has recommended that the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association (TTFA) should consider recognising the duo for their tremendous service to the country and the local game.
Jones, a former national junior and senior player and captain, made his decision to look beyond Attin-Johnson and Cordner after alleged social-media postings which did not sit well with him and the TTFA.
Meanwhile, Keeper Kimika Forbes is one of five players from Police FC in the team, while the team's youngest player is 20-year-old Maria-Frances Serrant, who plays for Corban University in the USA.
