Khellawan, Humphreys cop Scotia U-19 t-tennis titles

Na­pari­ma Girls Col­lege’s Priyan­ka Khellawan and Samuel Humphreys of Ari­ma Cen­tral Sec­ondary cap­tured the Girls and Boys Un­der-19 Di­vi­sion Sin­gles crown when the when the Sco­tia­bank Schools Ta­ble Ten­nis Tour­na­ment con­clud­ed at the Na­tion­al Rac­quet Cen­tre, Or­ange Grove Road, Tacarigua, on Sun­day.

In the girls’ fi­nal, Khellawan out­played AS­JA Girls’ Re­bekah Ster­ling, 11-8, 10-12, 11-7, 11-7, to take home the ti­tle.

This was af­ter Khellawan beat Holy Faith Con­vent’s Sar­i­ana Ra­moutar 11-5, 11-3, 11-5 in her semi­fi­nal, and Ster­ling eased past Mikah Stroude of Na­pari­ma Girls, 11-5, 11-6, 11-7.

Humphreys was al­so tak­en to four sets in the Boys’ U-19 fi­nal be­fore he tri­umphed, 10-12, 11-8, 12-10, 11-8, over Ameer Mo­hamed of Fyz­abad In­ter­me­di­ate.

In the semi­fi­nals, Humphreys out­last­ed Nir­van Nar­i­nesingh of Pre­sen­ta­tion Col­lege of Ch­agua­nas, 11-6, 11-3, 11-8, and Mo­hamed topped Fa­ti­ma Col­lege’s Nicholas O’Young, 15-13, 11-3, 6-11, 11-5

In the U-15 Boys’, Gabriel John of Tri­mont Col­lege de­feat­ed St An­tho­ny’s Col­lege’s Ky­mani Hold­er, 11-9, 11-7, 11-8, in the fi­nal.

Ear­li­er in the semi­fi­nals, John of Tri­mont Col­lege brushed aside Kay­o­de Lee of Trin­i­ty Col­lege East, 11-6, 11-9, 11-5 and Hold­er beat Fa­ti­ma’s Raees Elahie, 13-11, 10-12, 11-8, 11-5.

Kait­lyn La Fon of St Joseph’s Con­vent (St Joseph) al­so won the U-15 Girls’ ti­tle in straight sets, 11-1, 11-12, 11-3 over Kar­ish­ma Per­sad of Lak­sh­mi Girls Hin­du Col­lege.

La Fon ear­li­er bat­tled past Mia Mapp of Lak­sh­mi Girls Hin­du Col­lege, 8-11, 6-11, 12-10, 15-13, 11-4 in her fi­nal-four en­counter while Per­sad beat school­mate Vaidikaa Singh, 8-11, 11-9, 7-11, 13-11, 11-6

Josi­ah Joseph of Na­pari­ma Boys’ Col­lege won the Boys’ U-13 crown af­ter he bet­tered Jonathan Cot­toy of St Mary’s Col­lege, 11-7, 11-5, 11-9.

Joseph over­whelmed Fa­ti­ma Col­lege’s Yan­nic Lewis 11-4, 6-11, 11-6, 11-6 in the semi­fi­nals, and Cot­toy ral­lied past Josi­ah Man­ley of North East­ern Col­lege 11-9, 11-9, 9-11, 11-7

Pre-tour­na­ment favourite in the U-13 Girls’ Di­vi­sion, Lyl­lana Bood­han of Lak­sh­mi Girls’ lived up to her billing when she de­feat­ed Ash­lea Mo­hammed AS­JA Girls’ Tu­na­puna 11-4, 11-6, 8-11, 11-2 for their age-group crown.

In the semi­fi­nals, Bood­han hum­bled Shreya Ma­haraj of AS­JA Girls’ Tu­na­puna 13-11, 11-3, 11-3 and Mo­hammed stopped Jerisse El­der of St Joseph’s Con­vent (San Fer­nan­do) 11-8, 8-11, 11-7, 11-7

Eliz­a­beth Ra­jah of Sa­cred Hearts Girls’ RC won the three-play­er Girls’ U-11 Sin­gles crown cour­tesy of wins against Bish­ops Anstey’s Jan­nah Mo­hammed, 7-11, 11-13, 11-9, 11-6, 11-6 and St Mon­i­ca’s Prepara­to­ry’s Ab­ba Camp­bell-Smith, 11-4, 11-9, 12-14, 9-11, 11-8. Mo­hammed end­ed in the sec­ond spot via her 11-4, 8-11, 11-9, 12-10 de­feat of Camp­bell-Smith.

In the Un­der-9 Boys’, Co­en Mack of St Pe­ter’s Pri­vate cap­tured the ti­tle thanks to his 11-5, 11-4, 11-5 win against his school­mate Samir Radge-Coomar.

Mack won his semi­fi­nal against Luke Odean of Dun­ross Prepara­to­ry 11-4, 12-10, 11-8, and Radge-Coomar beat Trent Sam­path of Tu­na­puna Hin­du School 11-3, 11-6, 11-5.

In the Girls’ U-9 which was con­test­ed via a four-play­er round-robin se­ries with AS­JA’s Hi­dayah Mo­hammed emerg­ing vic­to­ri­ous af­ter beat­ing Rukha Camp­bell-Smith of St Mon­i­ca’s 11-5, 11-5, 9-11, 6-11, 11-8; Ari­ma Girls’ Anya Ed­wards 11-6, 11-3, 11-3, and St Pe­ter’s Pri­vate’s Zuri Radge-Coomar 11-5, 11-5, 11-8.

Camp­bell-Smith won her oth­er match­es against Ed­wards 11-5, 11-3, 11-8 and Radge-Coomar 11-7, 11-6, 11-13, 12-10 for the sec­ond spot with a 2-1 record while Radge-Coomar won 11-5, 11-5, 11-5 against Ed­wards for third.
