BRIDGETOWN – Nicholas Kir­ton, the cap­tain of Cana­da’s crick­et team, is in po­lice cus­tody as he as­sists po­lice in re­la­tion to a drug charge.

The 26-year-old Bar­ba­di­an was tak­en in­to po­lice cus­tody on Sun­day af­ter ar­riv­ing at the Grant­ley Adams In­ter­na­tion­al Air­port.

Ac­cord­ing to sources, the in­ves­ti­ga­tion is in re­la­tion to 20 pounds of cannabis.

Kir­ton played for the West In­dies Un­der 19s and Bar­ba­dos be­fore mi­grat­ing to Cana­da.

He has al­so rep­re­sent­ed the Com­bined Cam­pus­es and Col­leges, Ja­maica Tallawahs, the Mon­tre­al Tigers and the Toron­to Na­tion­als.
