Out-of-favour West Indies opener Evin Lewis slammed a century for Bess Motors Marchin Patriots to hand Queen’s Park Cricket Club (QPCC) their first loss in the T&T Cricket Board Premier Division 50 overs competition at Marchin Recreation Ground, Charlieville Sunday.
The left-handed aggressive opener matched Queen’s Park opener Jordan Warner’s century as QPCC was aiming to stretch its unbeaten start to the tournament to four wins.
The visitors from Tragarete Road won the toss and elected to bat and got a lukewarm start as skipper Isaiah Rajah was out for 13 in the eighth over at 26 for 1.
Jason Batson joined Warner and together they put on 31 before Batson was out for 15 at 57 for 2.
Joshua Ramdoo stuck around for 24 but was third out at 121 for 3 in the 29th over. While the Parkites were not in a panic mood, concern was smouldering but West Indies left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein scored 57 in an innings that lasted 50 balls with five sixes and four fours. Together, they put on 108 and ended with the dismissal of Hosein.
Wickets continued to fall and Warner was seventh out for a well-played 120. His knock lasted 145 balls and included eight sixes with the same in addition to an equal number of sixes.
Queen’s Park closed on 285 for 8 from their 50 overs.
In reply, the Patriots lost Adrian Ali with the first ball of the innings.
Evin Lewis, who opened with Ali was then joined by Crystian Thurton and together they put on 88 with Thurton dominating that partnership with 55.
Richie Looknauth joined Lewis at 88 for 2 after the dismissal of Thurton and together they took the score to 223 for 3 when Looknauth was dismissed for 46.
Lewis was out ten runs later for 119, inclusive of nine fours and nine sixes and lasted 99 balls.
By that time, the former Powergen man had set the foundation for Marchin to overhaul the total as they reached 286 for 7 in 46.5 overs for the three-wicket win.
QPCC will attempt to get back in winning ways next week when they play fellow North team Merryboys. Central Sports is the only unbeaten team and will aim for five straight when they face reigning champion Clarke Road in a big clash in Wilson Road, Penal. Lewis will welcome familiar faces when Powergen visits Marchin Patriots and Preysal will fancy a win against the struggling Victoria, who after scoring 186 against Central Sports on Saturday, were bowled out for 23 yesterday and are four losses from four matches.
