Kali­fa Mc­Collin-Lopez was a pow­er­ful pres­ence in the cir­cle for the Uni­ver­si­ty of T&T (UTT), to pi­lot her team to a com­fort­able 64-37 win over MIC Tigers in the Pre­mier­ship Di­vi­sion of the Courts All Sec­tors Net­ball League at the East­ern Re­gion­al In­door Sports Are­na in Tacarigua on Sat­ur­day.

The goal-at­tack slot­ted in 54 goals from 57 at­tempts to help her team re­main un­beat­en to start round two.

Her goal-shoot­er Shaniya Mor­gan nailed 10 of 14 tries in a match which was close, from the first pass. MIC open­ing shoot­ers Ree­ka Seer­at­tan (16/20) and Re­han­na Ali (19/29) worked in tan­dem to have their team nar­row­ly ahead at the end of the first quar­ter, 14-13.

How­ev­er, with Mc­Collin-Lopez bru­tal in at­tack, the Uni­ver­si­ty team seized to­tal con­trol in the sec­ond stan­za, outscor­ing the Tigers 19-6, to lead 32-20 at the half and nev­er looked back.

MIC has in­stalled Aaliyah Mod­este as the goal-shoot­er re­plac­ing Seer­at­tan and she was per­fect from her two at­tempts but not enough to trou­ble UTT, who went on to take a 49-28 ad­van­tage in the third quar­ter and dom­i­nat­ed the fourth pe­ri­od to seal the 27-goal vic­to­ry.

Lat­er in the oth­er Pre­mier­ship match, Abeni Tay­lor, who re­placed score­less goal-shoot­er Akeela Ro­driguez, who did not at­tempt a shot, net­ted 35 off 45 to guide De­fence Force to a hard-fought win over Po­lice, 46-39 af­ter lead­ing at the end of each quar­ter—9-7 in the first, 19-16 at half­time and 31-30 in the third be­fore pulling away to take the sev­en-goal win.

Goal-at­tack Jody Sprott scored the oth­er 11 goals from 25 tries for the win­ner.

For Po­lice, Je­selle Navar­ro was the main con­trib­u­tor to the goals with 20 of 25. Gushi­er Grant, who re­placed Navar­ro in the goal-shoot po­si­tion, was al­most flaw­less with 13 off 14 in a los­ing ef­fort.

Ear­li­er in the Cham­pi­onship Di­vi­sion, TT Post, MIC, De­fence Force and Jabloteh tri­umphed in their re­spec­tive match­es.

TT Post, led by Nekeisha Gomes (25/34) de­feat­ed Po­lice, 40-32, MIC, thanks to Tiffany Gon­za­lez (29/44) and Er­i­ca Job (12/23), beat UTT, 41-35 while in the clos­est con­test­ed match of the day, De­fence Force trailed at the end of each quar­ter but emerged with the nar­row two-goal (32-30) win and Jabloteh re­cov­ered from a shaky start to take a 41-30 win over Bermudez.
