Mixed results for junior netballers in Dominica

T&T ju­nior net­ballers had mixed re­sults in their open­ing two match­es at the Caribbean Net­ball As­so­ci­a­tion’s (CNA) Jean Pierre Youth Net­ball Cham­pi­onships in Roseau, Do­mini­ca, which start­ed on the week­end.

At the Wind­sor Park Sports Sta­di­um, the ju­nior “Ca­lyp­so Girls” fell to a nar­row 18-15 de­feat to the team from the host coun­try on Sun­day af­ter open­ing with a 16-11 win over Grena­da, the day be­fore.

Goal-at­tack Keiko Roy led the scor­ing for T&T when they met the Do­mini­cans in the fi­nal match on the sec­ond night of ac­tion in the ju­nior tour­na­ment. Roy con­nect­ed nine of her 14 at­tempts while feed­ing her goal-shoot­er Adri­ana Moreno, who fin­ished with six from 10 tries.

For Do­mini­ca, goal-shoot­er Kenya John pro­duced a match-high 11 of 18. Le-Myah Forde, the goal-at­tack, added sev­en in 14 to give the host team its sec­ond straight win in as many match­es. Do­mini­ca sealed a huge 23-8 vic­to­ry over St Lu­cia on Sat­ur­day.

That evening, T&T pulled off a five-goal (16-11) win over the Grena­di­ans in the fi­nal match of the open­ing night. Both Roy and Moreno net­ted eight goals from 10 and 12 tries, re­spec­tive­ly.

T&T, coached by for­mer na­tion­al se­nior cap­tain Lystra Solomon-Sim­mons with Liselle John­son as her as­sis­tant coach, were last evening, sched­uled to face St Lu­cia, who bounced back from its open­ing loss to Do­mini­ca (23-8), to beat Cay­man Is­lands (16-14).

In the fourth round of match­es to­day, T&T will take on the win­less Cay­man Is­lands.

To­mor­row will be the shoot­ing com­pe­ti­tion from 8 am and lat­er T&T face Bar­ba­dos in the fi­nal match of the ju­nior cham­pi­onships at 7 pm.
