T&T’s Olympic boxers Nigel Paul and Aaron Prince lead a list of eight local boxers to be ranked among the top 40 boxers in the world, according to the International Boxing Association.
And with their rank, they also guided the country to the 40th rank in the world out of 120 nations.
Paul, a super heavyweight boxer, who won the National Novice Championships and was seventh at the AMBC American Confederation Boxing Championships, is currently ranked fifth in his division which came due to his recent achievements at international competitions, including his bronze-medal achievement at the International Boxing Championships in Belgrade, Serbia last year.
Prince, on the other hand, qualified for the Olympic Games last year and gave a creditable performance in the red, white and black that earned him the 22nd rank in the middleweight division (75 kg).
The other boxers proving their worth on the international stage are Andrew Fermin, who is 18th in the Light heavyweight division (81 kg); Blessing Waldrop (No 40 in the welterweight division—69kg); Donnell Phillips (No 37 in the lightweight division—60 kg); Anthony Shawn Joseph (No 22 in the featherweight division —57kg); Tianna Guy (No 23 in the Featherweight division —57kg); and Faith Ramnath, who is 13th ranked in the Minimumweight—48 kg.
A release from the T&T Boxing Association on Sunday praised the boxers for their achievements, which it said were due to hard work and discipline.
