Phoenix, Lakers TFA Premier struggles continue

For­mer cham­pi­ons, 1976 FC Phoenix and Rox­bor­ough Lak­ers' strug­gle in the To­ba­go Foot­ball As­so­ci­a­tion Pre­mier Di­vi­sion con­tin­ued af­ter they were both held to drawn re­sults in their re­spec­tive con­fer­ence match­es at the Spey­side recre­ation­al ground on Sun­day.

In the open­ing match of the night's dou­ble­head­er, Rox­bor­ough Lak­ers was held to a 1-1 draw by Char­lot­teville Po­lice Youth Club to leave both clubs stuck at the bot­tom of the sev­en-team East­ern Con­fer­ence stand­ings.

Ariel Wal­cott had giv­en Lak­ers a 19th-minute lead, but Jer­ry­on Chad­band equalised for Char­lot­teville in the 76th to earn a share of the points which left both clubs on four points, the same as FC Good­wood, fifth on the stand­ings.

An­oth­er pair of for­mer cham­pi­ons Sidey's FC and Geor­gia FC lead the ta­ble with 12 points from six and five match­es played re­spec­tive­ly, two points ahead of Belle Gar­den SC and Goal City, a for­mer TFA win­ner as well.

In the West­ern Con­fer­ence, Phoenix missed a chance to move in­to the third spot on the six-club stand­ings fol­low­ing its goal­less draw with Black Rock.

The drawn re­sult left Phoenix fourth on the ta­ble with sev­en points from five match­es, six be­hind lead­ers Carn­bee/Mt Pleas­ant while Ea­gles FC is sec­ond with ten points, fol­lowed by Bethel Unit­ed, a fur­ther two points be­hind.

In the Cen­tral Con­fer­ence, Stoke­ly Vale and Bertille St Clair’s SA are in a two-way tie at the top of the six-club ta­ble with ten points each from four and five match­es re­spec­tive­ly, with Sig­nal Hill Unit­ed and Leeds Unit­ed, next with nine points apiece.

To­day at the Shaw Park Cul­tur­al Com­plex in Scar­bor­ough, Lak­ers will have a chance to move out of the bot­tom two when it faces Geor­gia FC, who can go top with a draw or win from 5.30 pm.

The fo­cus will then shift to the TFA FA tro­phy fi­nal on Fri­day at the Dwight Yorke Sta­di­um, Ba­co­let with Stok­ley Vale and Sidey's FC set to square off for top ho­n­ours.

This af­ter Quame Mc Dougall of Stoke­ly Vale and Stephon An­toine of Sidey’s FC both scored hat tricks to lead their re­spec­tive clubs to semi­fi­nal wins at the same venue last Sat­ur­day night.

In the open­ing match, Mc Dougall scored in the 25th, 31st and 58th min­utes while Ste­fano Wright added an­oth­er in the 29th for Stoke­ly Vale to beat Geor­gia FC 4-2.

For Geor­gia, J’sean Wash­ing­ton scored a dou­ble in the 45+3, a penal­ty, and in the 90+1 while De­on Thomas got the oth­er 55th.

Sidey’s FC had a much eas­i­er time against Gold­en Lane and ran out 6-1 win­ners with An­toine scor­ing in the third, 25th and 70th min­utes with Weah Adams (47th), Kyle David­son (57th) and Pavel War­rick (90+1) the oth­er scor­ers af­ter Aaron Clarke briefly drew Gold­en Lane lev­el in the sixth minute from the penal­ty spot.
