BENGALURU – Sherfane Rutherford played an important innings as his Gujarat Titans upstaged Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by eight wickets when the Indian Premier League (IPL) continued on Wednesday.
Rutherford, who came on as a substitute, struck an unbeaten 30 from 19 balls as the Titans easily chased down RCB’s total of 169 for eight, finishing on 170 for two off 17.5 overs.
After being sent in to bat at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, RCB were undermined by fast bowler Mohammed Siraj, who took three wickets to restrict them to 42 for four in the seventh over.
However, Liam Livingstone led a fightback, scoring 54 from 40 balls with five sixes and one four, Jitesh Sharma made 33 from 21 balls and number nine Tim David struck 32 off 18 balls, to help get RCB up to their eventual total.
Siraj finished with 3-19 from his four overs and left-arm spinner Sai Kishore took 2-22.
Opener Sai Sudharsan then hit 49 from 36 balls and together with Jos Buttler, who scored an unbeaten 73 from 39 balls with six sixes and five fours, put the Titans in a strong position at 107 for one.
When Sudharsan fell, Rutherford joined Buttler and the two shared an unbroken partnership of 63 to take the Titans to their second victory in three matches.
