BEN­GALU­RU – Sher­fane Ruther­ford played an im­por­tant in­nings as his Gu­jarat Ti­tans up­staged Roy­al Chal­lengers Ben­galu­ru (RCB) by eight wick­ets when the In­di­an Pre­mier League (IPL) con­tin­ued on Wednes­day.

Ruther­ford, who came on as a sub­sti­tute, struck an un­beat­en 30 from 19 balls as the Ti­tans eas­i­ly chased down RCB’s to­tal of 169 for eight, fin­ish­ing on 170 for two off 17.5 overs.

Af­ter be­ing sent in to bat at the M Chin­naswamy Sta­di­um, RCB were un­der­mined by fast bowler Mo­hammed Sir­aj, who took three wick­ets to re­strict them to 42 for four in the sev­enth over.

How­ev­er, Liam Liv­ing­stone led a fight­back, scor­ing 54 from 40 balls with five six­es and one four, Jitesh Shar­ma made 33 from 21 balls and num­ber nine Tim David struck 32 off 18 balls, to help get RCB up to their even­tu­al to­tal.

Sir­aj fin­ished with 3-19 from his four overs and left-arm spin­ner Sai Kishore took 2-22.

Open­er Sai Sud­harsan then hit 49 from 36 balls and to­geth­er with Jos But­tler, who scored an un­beat­en 73 from 39 balls with six six­es and five fours, put the Ti­tans in a strong po­si­tion at 107 for one.

When Sud­harsan fell, Ruther­ford joined But­tler and the two shared an un­bro­ken part­ner­ship of 63 to take the Ti­tans to their sec­ond vic­to­ry in three match­es.
