Makae­lan Woods and Je­ni­ah To­bias led a num­ber of ath­letes who scored mul­ti­ple wins at the an­nu­al Mag­ic Mist Cen­tral Zon­al Games held on Thurs­day at the Hase­ly Craw­ford Sta­di­um in Port-of-Spain.

Woods of Rich­mond Street Boys An­gli­can won gold in the 100 me­tres, 200m and 400m in the Un­der-13 Boys age-group in the Cen­tral A zone to be named the vic­tor lu­do­rum with 15 points as well as To­bias of Sa­cred Heart Girl’s RC, scored the same num­ber of points and earned the award in the Cen­tral A zone for the U-13 girls af­ter reach­ing the top of the podi­um in the same three events.

Co­in­ci­den­tal­ly, the feat was al­so achieved by four oth­er ath­letes in­clud­ing Cen­tral A U-11 vic­trix lu­do­rum Alafia Charles of New­town Girls RC. Eden Chee-Wah of Sa­cred Heart Girl’s RC was on tar­get with 15 points while Cen­tral A U-15 Boys cham­pi­on Micha Billingy of Rosary Boys RC and Nathaniela King of St Ur­su­la’s al­so achieved that suc­cess in the U-15 Girls cham­pi­onship in Cen­tral A.

Chair­man of the Sports Or­gan­is­ing Com­mit­tee Games Lyle Re­ece thanked spon­sor Mag­ic Mist Ser­vices Lim­it­ed, who has giv­en its sup­port over the past five years.

Mag­ic Mist vice pres­i­dent Wayne Her­bert brought greet­ings on be­half of his com­pa­ny and ex­pressed the need to give back.

He said, "As an or­gan­i­sa­tion, we un­der­stand the im­por­tance of giv­ing back to the com­mu­ni­ties with­in which we serve many of which fall with­in the Port-of-Spain Cen­tral school dis­trict. As such we sin­cere­ly be­lieve it is our re­spon­si­bil­i­ty to har­ness and de­vel­op the po­ten­tial of these young stu­dents - they are our fu­ture lead­ers."

Mu­cu­rapo Boys of Cen­tral B def­i­nite­ly led in the zone's march past as they were ad­judged the best on pa­rade with 274 points. Gaines Nor­mal AME was sec­ond with 264 and Mu­cu­rapo Girls RC was third with 257.

Sa­cred Heart RC (266) con­tin­ued its dom­i­nance of the Cen­tral A march past with a hard-fought suc­cess over St Cather­ine’s Girls An­gli­can (265). Rosary Boys made it four straight cham­pi­onships wins in four years and six in sev­en years when they won con­vinc­ing­ly.

These out­stand­ing ath­letes will go for glo­ry on April 24 when they match up against the lead­ing ath­letes from the var­i­ous zones at the Ro­tary Games to be held at the same venue.
