San Juan North Secondary made history at the Inter-Col Nostalgia Football Festival when they won all four titles at stake among the three divisions contested at the St George's College Ground, Sixth Avenue, Barataria on Saturday.
This was after San Juan North Secondary won the Over-35, Over-45 and Over-55 round-robin league titles contested over 20 minutes per match, as well as the Over-55 knockout crown.
In the four-team Over-35 Division, the Elijah Manners-led San Juan North topped the standings inspired by the display of eventual "Most Valuable Player" award recipient Keron Mitchell, with outright wins over St Anthony's College (3-0) by default, and Fatima College (3-0) as well as a 1-0 penalty-kicks triumph over East Mucurapo Secondary for two points after a 1-1 draw in regulation time.
At the end of the round-robin stage, San Juan North Secondary tallied eight points from their three matches, one more than East Mucurapo Secondary, who also won by default over St Anthony's College (3-0) and battled past neighbours Fatima College 6-5 while picking up one point from their penalty-kicks loss to the eventual champions.
The Over-45 Division competition also saw the Marvin Oliver and Stephan David-led San Juan North Secondary topping the seven team series with outright victories over Presentation College of San Fernando (5-0), Fatima College (2-0), St Mary's College (1-0), East Mucurapo Secondary (5-0) and Naparima College (4-2) before ending off with a 1-0 penalty-kicks defeat of St Anthony's College after both teams battled to a 1-1 draw.
With the five outright wins and the penalty-kick triumph, San Juan North Secondary tallied 17 points, five more than East Mucurapo Secondary who had wins over St Anthony's College (3-0), Presentation College (1-0), and Naparima College (5-1) together with a penalty-kicks victory over St Mary's College 1-0 after a 1-1 deadlock, and a 2-3 penalty-kicks loss against zonal rival Fatima College following a 2-2 draw.
The Over-55 Division was the most keenly contested, with the title decider going down to the final match between San Juan North Secondary (17 points) and St Augustine Secondary (16 points), with the latter needing an outright win to snatch the crown.
In the end, St Augustine Secondary managed to secure a sudden-death 4-3 penalty-kicks win over San Juan North after a goalless draw, with the point earned, San Juan North Secondary ended with 18 points, the same as St Augustine Secondary, but with a superior goal-difference of plus-13 to the 'Green Machine' plus-seven.
In their earlier matches, San Juan North Secondary defeated Presentation College of San Fernando (3-0) by default, John Donaldson Technical Institute 1-0 on penalty-kicks after a 0-0 draw, Fatima College 3-0, Naparima College 1-0, and Tranquillity Secondary, 1-0 as well.
St Augustine Secondary, meanwhile, beat Naparima College 2-1 on penalty-kicks after a 0-0 draw, Tranquillity Secondary 1-0, Fatima College 1-0 on penalty-kicks after a 1-1 draw, Presentation College 3-0 (by default), John Donaldson Technical Institute 1-0 and St Mary's College 3-1.
In the knockout final, San Juan North Secondary got the better of St Augustine Secondary 1-0.
The day's activities were also used to highlight the contributions of Lenox Ronald Greenidge, Everad Lewis and Dr Ken Butcher by Earl "Mango" Pierre, the president of the T&T Players Association.
Pierre noted that the awards were in recognition of their players' contribution to the development of former USA-based T&T players, not just on the field of play, but in terms of their overall growth and life in general.
