XIAMEN – Shericka Jackson sent a thunderous warning to her rivals on Saturday, storming to a season’s best and meet record of 21.87 seconds in the women’s 200 metres at the Xiamen Diamond League in China.
The victory marked back-to-back wins for the Jamaican star in the event and delivered the second-fastest time in the world this season, trailing only St Lucia’s Julien Alfred (21.86).
Just a day after telling reporters she was “not satisfied” with her 2025 campaign, Jackson left no doubt from the moment she exploded from the blocks.
Running out of lane seven, the two-time world champion carved a perfect curve and powered down the straightaway for a commanding, wire-to-wire triumph.
Bahamas’ Shaunae Miller-Uibo once again finished second, crossing in a season’s best 22.04.
Former meet record holder Anavia Battle of the United States took third in 22.29 (SB), while 2023 world 100m champion Sha’Carri Richardson placed fourth in 22.38 (SB).
It was a banner day for Jamaican athletes in Xiamen. Olympic shot put bronze medallist Rajindra Campbell launched a national record of 22.34 metres on his fifth attempt to seize victory, outlasting Americans Jordan Geist (21.52) and Ryan Crouser (21.41).
In the men’s long jump, 2019 world champion Tajay Gayle soared to a season’s best 8.32 metres for second place. Greece’s double Olympic champion Miltiadis Tentoglou won with a meet record and world-leading 8.46m. Jamaica’s Wayne Pinnock was sixth with 7.93 (SB).
Lamara Distin cleared 1.94 metres for third in the women’s high jump, while Tokyo World Championships silver medallist Orlando Bennett equalled his season’s best of 13.20 seconds to take bronze in the men’s 110m hurdles.
The night’s most jaw-dropping performance arrived in the final track event. Olympic champion Masai Russell of the United States obliterated her own world-leading time from a week earlier, flying to a stunning 12.14 seconds in the women’s 100m hurdles, a new meet, Diamond League, and Area record.
Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan was second in 12.28 (SB), and Bahamas’ Devynne Charlton third in a national record 12.37. Jamaica’s Megan Simmonds placed fourth (12.62 SB), followed by Ackera Nugent (6th, 12.64 SB) and Danielle Williams (7th, 12.90).
Botswana’s Busang Kebinatshipi blazed to a meet record and world-leading 43.92 seconds to win the men’s 400m, ahead of Zambia’s Muzala Samukonga (44.04) and South Africa’s Zakithi Nene (44.40).
In the men’s 400m hurdles, Brazil’s Alison dos Santos clocked a world-leading 46.72 to hold off Norway’s Karsten Warholm (46.82 SB), with American Caleb Dean third (47.75 SB).
