Cyclist Nicholas Paul was on the podium again in the UCI Champions League in Apeldoorn, Netherlands, on Friday.
Paul paired with hometown favourite Harrie Lavreysen for the final of the Match Sprint but settled for the second position and the silver medal with a time of 11.244.
Lavreysen, an Olympic gold medallist proved to be too fast for the T&T rider, beating him in a dash to the finish line in a time of 10.651 seconds.
Earlier, Paul got the better of Matthew Richardson of Great Britain in the semifinal of the sprint, posting a time of 10.488 for his berth in the final. Lavreysen in his journey to the title race disposed of his countryman Jeffrey Hoogland with a time of 10.143 that was significantly faster than his compatriot's 10.211.
Lavreysen though was surprised in the men's keirin by Colombia's Christian Ortega stepping up for the top spot in the final. Paul rebounded from his fifth-place finish in the same event in the first round at the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines in Paris, France last weekend, and had a much-improved performance at third.
He trailed the eventual winner Christopher Ortega, who stormed ahead of the six-man field, for the gold medal while Lavreysen came in behind him for the silver medal.
