Stephon Singh and his son Chad emerged as winners of the 20th Chief Secretary Charity Golf Tournament which took place at the Plantations Golf Course, Magdalena Grand Beach and Golf Resort, Lowlands, Tobago from June 14-15.
The Singhs scored a two-day total of 85 (45, 40) to take the US$2,000 voucher first place prize, finishing ahead of national players Clint Alfred and Desrond Ambrose with 80 (48,32) and another father and son pair Larry and Zahir Sookram with 79 (41,38).
The Singhs were in third after the first day on 45, with Alfred and Ambrose tied with Dawson Mohip/Ramhit Chairtan (48) for the lead. The Sookrams were in 13th spot after day one. Rodney Phillip/Andy Gomez Burke with 79 (41, 38), ended the fourth, moving up from 12th.
The team of Steve Durgadeen/Ramdeen Deosingh with 79 (44, 35), was next followed by Rafi Mohammad/Shazad Ali, 78 (39, 39).
Yet another father/son duo Samuel and Lorenzo Kent with 77 (37, 40), were the highest-placed Tobagonians, in seventh. The Kents had a strong second day after lying outside of the top 20 after the first day's play.
Johanson Singh and Suresh Jagessar with 77 (38, 39) rounded off the top eight, Dr Warren Steele and Williams Shaw were the next best Tobago pair in 11th with 77 (44, 33) with Kerville Cowie/Errol Wright 76 (37, 39), the third Tobago team in 13th.
Tournament organiser Jeffrey Azar and partner Kennedy Flemming had a two-day total of 76 (38, 38).
The top 15 of the 49 teams received prizes.
The "Nearest The Pin" winners were, on day one, Hole 14-Daniel Boodram and Hole 7-Allan Elias, and day two, Hole 14-Samuel Kent and Hole 5-Clint Alfred.
Chief Secretary Farley Augustine was on hand to present the prizes and the tournament-ending Gala banquet at the Magdalena Grand Beach and Golf Resort Ballroom.
Speaking after the victory, Stephon Singh said copping the title was the best achievement for he and his son in golf.
The Couva resident added that they had a better first day and described the second day as a scramble. He praised the Plantations Golf course in Magdalena rating it as one of the best in the country. The Brechin Castle club member is looking forward to playing on the course again.
The proceeds will go towards assisting the golf academies in Tobago.
