Stephon Singh and his son Chad emerged as win­ners of the 20th Chief Sec­re­tary Char­i­ty Golf Tour­na­ment which took place at the Plan­ta­tions Golf Course, Mag­dale­na Grand Beach and Golf Re­sort, Low­lands, To­ba­go from June 14-15.

The Singhs scored a two-day to­tal of 85 (45, 40) to take the US$2,000 vouch­er first place prize, fin­ish­ing ahead of na­tion­al play­ers Clint Al­fred and Desrond Am­brose with 80 (48,32) and an­oth­er fa­ther and son pair Lar­ry and Za­hir Sookram with 79 (41,38).

The Singhs were in third af­ter the first day on 45, with Al­fred and Am­brose tied with Daw­son Mo­hip/Ramhit Chair­tan (48) for the lead. The Sookrams were in 13th spot af­ter day one. Rod­ney Phillip/Andy Gomez Burke with 79 (41, 38), end­ed the fourth, mov­ing up from 12th.

The team of Steve Dur­gadeen/Ramdeen De­osingh with 79 (44, 35), was next fol­lowed by Rafi Mo­ham­mad/Shaz­ad Ali, 78 (39, 39).

Yet an­oth­er fa­ther/son duo Samuel and Loren­zo Kent with 77 (37, 40), were the high­est-placed To­bag­o­ni­ans, in sev­enth. The Kents had a strong sec­ond day af­ter ly­ing out­side of the top 20 af­ter the first day's play.

Jo­han­son Singh and Suresh Jages­sar with 77 (38, 39) round­ed off the top eight, Dr War­ren Steele and Williams Shaw were the next best To­ba­go pair in 11th with 77 (44, 33) with Kerville Cowie/Er­rol Wright 76 (37, 39), the third To­ba­go team in 13th.

Tour­na­ment or­gan­is­er Jef­frey Azar and part­ner Kennedy Flem­ming had a two-day to­tal of 76 (38, 38).

The top 15 of the 49 teams re­ceived prizes.

The "Near­est The Pin" win­ners were, on day one, Hole 14-Daniel Boodram and Hole 7-Al­lan Elias, and day two, Hole 14-Samuel Kent and Hole 5-Clint Al­fred.

Chief Sec­re­tary Far­ley Au­gus­tine was on hand to present the prizes and the tour­na­ment-end­ing Gala ban­quet at the Mag­dale­na Grand Beach and Golf Re­sort Ball­room.

Speak­ing af­ter the vic­to­ry, Stephon Singh said cop­ping the ti­tle was the best achieve­ment for he and his son in golf.

The Cou­va res­i­dent added that they had a bet­ter first day and de­scribed the sec­ond day as a scram­ble. He praised the Plan­ta­tions Golf course in Mag­dale­na rat­ing it as one of the best in the coun­try. The Brechin Cas­tle club mem­ber is look­ing for­ward to play­ing on the course again.

The pro­ceeds will go to­wards as­sist­ing the golf acad­e­mies in To­ba­go.
