St Benedict’s College, winner of this year’s Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Premier Division League title, will go after Chaguanas North in a quarterfinal encounter of the Coca-Cola National Intercol match on Monday from 3.30 pm at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Balmain, Couva.
The match is not expected to be a difficult proposal for the southerners but on Sunday St Benedict’s coach Randolph Boyce said he will not be taking any team lightly and will take a cautious approach as they have done for all the other matches.
“I have looked at Chaguanas North play and I can tell you they are fast to the ball and they are good at one-on-one situations. They are also solid in the back as they defend with seven players but we will be ready,” Boyce said.
“I realised that all those teams change their approach and strategy when they’re coming up against us, so I know we will have to be ready to make the necessary changes also when we see what we will have to do, so we will be ready.
“I can tell you that if all the teams change their strategy for matches, it will be a plus for T&T football because it will tell you that coaches are thinking and the players will have to learn to adjust, which is essentially how the game is played internationally, so it will be good for T&T football.”
Also on Monday, in the South Girls’ Intercol finals, Pleasantville Secondary will be up against Fyzabad Secondary from 3 pm at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella.
Meanwhile, matches across T&T on Sunday were postponed due to the adverse weather conditions which were upgraded to Orange Level.
In the Girls Intercol, Holy Name Convent was scheduled to face rivals St Joseph’s Convent at Fatima College Ground in the North Zone, while Central Zone league winner Miracle Ministries was expected to be up against Holy Faith Convent in the zonal Intercol final at the at Couva East Secondary School ground.
