JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – Organisers have placed 30 000 tickets on sale for next month’s Women’s Twenty20 World Cup here, as the 30-day countdown to the International Cricket Council showpiece began Wednesday.
The tickets have been priced at 30 South African Rand (US$1.79) for matches at the three host venues – Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town, Boland Park in Paarl and St George’s Park in Gqeberha – and are available for purchase from venue box offices or online.
West Indies Women will contest Group 2 of the February 10-26 tournament alongside England, 2020 losing finalists India, Ireland and Pakistan.
Group 1 comprises hosts South Africa, title-holders Australia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and New Zealand.
“It is so exciting that we are only 30 days away until the start of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup when the best cricketers from around the world will compete for the ultimate prize in T20 cricket,” said ICC Head of Events, Chris Tetley.
“The entertaining vibe and activities planned for spectators at matches is not to be missed, so I urge all fans to take advantage of the promotion and be a part of a World Cup before tickets sell out.”
Leading South African artistes are expected to make appearances during the tournament, headlining robust entertainment packages at top tier matches.
The ICC said this was with the aim of “putting on a spectacular show for the spectators” and creating “a memorable and inclusive experience for everyone.”
“Being a Gqeberha local, I know the experience and atmosphere is going to be electric. Fans are going to be in for a treat on and off the field,” said South Africa captain, Dane van Niekerk.
South Africa raise the curtain on the tournament on February 10 with a clash against Sri Lanka in Cape Town, with West Indies getting their campaign up and running the following day against Paarl.
The semi-finals and final are carded for Cape Town.
