Hosts T&T, Barbados and Leeward Islands all registered successive victories when the CWI Rising Stars Under-17 Men’s 50-over Championship continued on Thursday.
At the National Cricket Centre: The home side strolled to a comfortable 91-run win over Jamaica, also via the Duckworth/Lewis/Stern (DLS)method..
After being sent in to bat, T&T totaled 232 for nine, after rain reduced their innings to 49 overs.
Opener Saleem Khan hit the top score of 48, but T&T were helped by useful contributions from Zackary Stewart (34), Amrit Pittiman (27 not out), Renaldo Fournillier (23) and Christiano Ramanan, who made 21.
For Jamaica Ryan Littleton took 3-29, Adrian Silvera 2-40 and Andrew Lloyd 2-46.
The visitors were then let down by their batting on their way to being dismissed for a paltry 141 in 35.3 overs.
Odane Bins made 42 and Demarco Scott 41, but after the former was dismissed to leave Jamaica 98 for three, the rest of the innings crumbled, with only one other batter reaching double figures.
T&T produced a well-balanced bowling attack with Daron Dhanraj taking 3-28, while Roberto Badree (2-12), Ra’ed Ali Khan (2-18) and Daniel Holder (2-41) took two wickets apiece.
At Inshan Ali Park: Barbados trounced the Windward Islands by 107 runs in a lopsided contest to send them crashing to their second straight loss.
Raphael Lovell and Jordan Graham both narrowly missed out on half centuries, as Barbados compiled 220 in their 50 overs after being sent in to bat.
Lovell made 47, while opener Graham scored 45, but Barbados suffered a collapse that saw them slip from 90 for one to 115 for five in the 31st over.
They were rescued by an 83-run partnership between Justin Parris, who made 33 and Lovell, which took them close to the 200-run mark before both lost their wickets in the space of four balls.
Elran Glasgow (3-29) was the Windwards’ best bowler while Cody Fontinelle (2-37), Aravinda Bishop (2-39) and Tyler Venner (2-43) provided support.
The Windward Islands got a decent start in their run chase and were 60 for one at one stage, before losing their last nine wickets for the addition of only 53 runs.
Medium pacer Jahidi Hinds was the main destroyer with 4-8 and Parris topped off a fine all-round game by claiming 2-9.
At Gilbert Park: Led by half centuries from openers Tanez Francis and Amoree Jones, the Leeward Islands cruised to a 55-run win over Guyana via the DLS method.
Skipper Francis topscored with 74 off 99 balls, while Jones made 52 from 74 balls, as Leeward Islands compiled 227 for six from their 50 overs.
The pair put on 110 runs for the first wicket, but medium pacer Navendra Sankar struck back to claim three quick wickets that saw them slide to 115 for three.
Hosea Roberts struck an unbeaten 34 to steady the innings and Eirette Richards provided good support in a knock of 21.
Sankar finished with 3-40.
Showers then delayed the start of Guyana’s innings, and they were eventually set a total of 218 in 45 overs.
They got a steady start in their run chase and behind opener Parmeshwar Ram’s 35, was well placed at 66 for one in the 14th over.
But Jathan Edward and Kunal Tilokani ran through Guyana’s middle order to leave them wobbling on 135 for seven.
It was a position they would not recover from, despite a fighting 26 from Emmanuel Lewis, and the ended up well short of their target.
Edward took 3-33 and Tilokani 2-32.
