After their second-place finish in the Championship Division of the Courts All Sectors Netball League last week, the TT Post made amends by taking the Fast Five Knock-Out title in the division, while the University of T&T (UTT) took home the Premiership crown on Saturday.
Playing at the Eastern Regional Indoor Sports Arena in Orange Grove, Tacarigua, the TT Post women defeated Defence Force, 20-16, in the final.
Earlier, it was a taste of sweet revenge for the post ladies, who defeated league champion Jabloteh in the semifinals 20-13. The San Juan women, who got the edge on them by two points for the league title, went to the losers' bracket to battle for another chance to reach the final.
TT Post was among nine teams in the tournament and they quickly cruised to the quarterfinals with an early bye. Later, they progressed to the quarterfinal round in the winners' bracket by clobbering Bermudez 26-15 before securing a place in the semifinals by beating Police Netball Youth Club (PNYC) 17-12.
Jaboteh, on the other hand, first battled to a 25-18 triumph over MIC before prevailing over the Unit Trust Corporation (UTC) by a similar 17-12 margin in the quarterfinals before being eliminated by TT Post.
On the other side, finalist Defence Force lost its opening match to UTC, 23-15, to enter the losers' bracket, still hoping to get to the final spot. The army/coastguard combination team first eliminated MIC, 24-20, before knocking off UTT, 21-11. However, its win streak ended at the hands of TT Post, who came away with the narrow four-goal margin and the Fast5 title.
In the Premiership Division, the UTT women got the better of a four-team playoff. A commanding 42-19 victory over MIC in their first game put UTT into the winners' bracket semifinals against Police, who had earlier beaten Defence Force in another 'Battle of the Services' 20-13.
UTT emerged with a 27-19 win over the police officers, 27-19 to seal a place in the title match.
In the losers' bracket, MIC did enough to get Defence Force, 16-12 to get into the final match. However, league champion UTT, with goal-shooter Shaniya Morgan and goal-attack Kalifa McCollin-Lopez operating in the shooting circle, proved to be the stronger team, prevailing 48-20 to snatch the Fast5 crown.
Shooting for MIC were Rehanna Ali (GS) and Reeka Seerattan (GA).
Fast5 action continues on Thursday with teams in the Alternative Division battling from 5.30 pm.
