Despite T&T trio of coach Stephen Hart, star striker Akeem Garcia and club captain Andre Rampersad falling short in their bid to lift the Canadian Premier Football League crown after their HFX Wanderers FC was humbled 2-0 by Forge FC on Saturday afternoon in The Island Games final in Charlottetown, two players were selected to the League's All-stars eleven.
Garcia and Rampersad got favourable nods to the 2020 Canadian Premier League Best XI from the editorial staff of Charlie O’Connor-Clarke, John Molinaro and Marty Thompson.
The team is - Akeem Garcia, Andre Rampersad and Abou Sissoko of losing finalist (HFX Wanderers) while Triston Henry, Daniel Krutzen and Kyle Bekker of Forge FC; were joined by Kadin Chung and Marco Bustos of Pacific FC; Mo Farsi and Dominick Zator of Cavalry FC and Javier Acuna was the lone selectee of Atletico Ottawa.
Here's an brief assessments of the two T&T players.
Andre Rampersad (HFX Wanderers)
“Rampy” led HFX Wanderers to the CPL final and dominated with his high intensity and two-way ability in match after match. The best box-to-box midfielder of this Best XI midfield-three, the Trinbago player posted an incredible 82 per cent passing accuracy in the final third, matched by a league-high 67 duels won. Crucial in the Wanderers’ press, and even more important spearheading attacks, Rampersad has a bright future ahead of him in Halifax.
Akeem Garcia (HFX Wanderers)
Finally, we have the Island Games’ Golden Boot winner. Garcia’s six goals put HFX firmly in the CPL title-match. All of them were poacher’s goals – in on the goalkeeper, all on his right foot – with the Trinbago talent emerging as the CPL’s purest finisher in dramatic fashion. Garcia’s play without the ball was impressive, too, pressing well and winning possession in dangerous areas of the field.
