Pro League giants W Connection is anything but out with a clear chance of claiming the title this season, in spite of claims by Central FC coach Stern John that the team is well on its way of doing so.
With six round of matches to go, the Savonetta Boys, as they are now popularly known, dropped two vital points against third-place Police FC in a heart-wrenching goalless draw at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva on Tuesday night, impacting its summit position by one point.
The result puts W Connection on 28 points, after 12 matches and a sizeable goal difference on its closest challenger Central FC. However, the men from central Trinidad have now narrowed the gap to five points, following their 2-2 tie with Club Sando in the first match of Tuesday's doubleheader at the Balmain Couva venue.
The 'Central Sharks' opened the scoring in the 10th minute from Akim Armstrong before Jayson Joseph found the equalizer in the 33rd. But T&T's 2006 World Cup campaigner Densill Theobald, a scorer of three goals in his team's last encounter, was again on target in the 39th minute to push the Sharks in front for the second time in the match.
The celebration for Theobald's item lasted 19 minutes before the southerners scored again from Tyronne Charles to ensure a share of the points.
Central's result has moved it to 23 points from 12 games before the international FIFA break. The Central men will resume their campaign after the break with a mouth-watering top-of-the-table clash with W Connection at a venue still to be decided.
In another game, third-place Police will have a date with San Juan Jabloteh and fourth-place Defence Force (20 points) will be up against North East Stars.
The Stars meanwhile pulled off a rare 2-1 win over Jabloteh on Tuesday, courtesy of goals from Dareem Daniel in the 63rd and Kordell Samuel's 94th for the team's first victory of the season. Daniel and company have now moved to five points but still rooted at the bottom of the standings.
