T&T-born Cana­di­an golfer Stephen Ames shot a dis­ap­point­ing one-over-par on day one of the US$7.5 mil­lion PGA Cham­pi­onship in Min­neso­ta, the year's last of the four "ma­jors" yes­ter­day.�

Ames is pro­vi­sion­al­ly in 47th place with 20 oth­er play­ers

The 45-year-old Ames had a ninth-place re­sult at the PGA Cham­pi­onship in 2004 but his record in the event has been poor oth­er­wise–a 30th-place fin­ish in 2000, his next best re­sult there.�

He missed the cut twice in sev­en ap­pear­ances at the PGA Cham­pi­onship.�

Ames has been ab­sent from the cir­cuit since plac­ing eighth at the RBC Cana­di­an Open in late Ju­ly.�Tiger Woods shot a bo­gey-free 5-un­der 67 to be one stroke ahead of play­ing part­ner and de­fend­ing champ Padraig Har­ring­ton atop the leader­board at the cham­pi­onship.
