T&T-born Canadian golfer Stephen Ames shot a disappointing one-over-par on day one of the US$7.5 million PGA Championship in Minnesota, the year's last of the four "majors" yesterday.
Ames is provisionally in 47th place with 20 other players
The 45-year-old Ames had a ninth-place result at the PGA Championship in 2004 but his record in the event has been poor otherwise–a 30th-place finish in 2000, his next best result there.
He missed the cut twice in seven appearances at the PGA Championship.
Ames has been absent from the circuit since placing eighth at the RBC Canadian Open in late July.Tiger Woods shot a bogey-free 5-under 67 to be one stroke ahead of playing partner and defending champ Padraig Harrington atop the leaderboard at the championship.
