The Har­ri­ram Gob­in trained/Mer­linn Sam­lals­ingh owned, four-year-old Donut Prince is my nap se­lec­tion to win to­day's fea­ture Starter Al­lowance event, over 1,750 me­tres on the main track at San­ta Rosa Park, Ari­ma. Donut Prince won very eas­i­ly in the open­ing event of the 2009 Rac­ing Sea­son and has im­proved in the in­ter­im, so I ex­pect the Ja­maican bred colt to win, do­ing hand­springs.

Clear­ly, the son of Law of The Sea/Doc­tor Bird has come on from his three-year-old days and with 52.5 ki­los on his back on to­day, will be very dif­fi­cult to beat with Nela Mo­hammed in the sad­dle. The horse, which I ex­pect­ed to give Donut Prince a run for his mon­ey, was the John O'Brien trained D Roy­al Prospect but this colt has side­stepped the as­sign­ment.

Lekh Raj from the De­er­ick Mosca barn is ex­pect­ed to go close. This six-year-old ran a brave race be­hind Man of Class two starts ago and on that run­ning, must have an out­stand­ing chance. But he may find hand­ing Donut Prince three ki­los be­yond him. The Guardian Gold Cup run­ner As­cot War­rior, which will be rid­den by Ra­j­paul Ra­jku­mar, must have a good chance, if back his best form. This horse would like a strong pace and once that is had, he will be run­ning on strong­ly at the end. Post time for the first event to­day is 12.45 pm.
