The Al­liance Fran�aise has once again joined forces with the Cott Foun­da­tion to pro­duce the an­nu­al F�te de la musique con­cert. The event will take place on June 20, at Pier 1, Ch­aguara­mas, from 5pm. There will be per­for­mances by Fethi Tabet, world mu­sic band from France.

Al­so on the cast are Mun­gal Patasar and Pan­tar, and young artistes from the Cott Check­list–Ju­dah, Sig­na­ture Blaze, Git­tadan and Ter­ri Lyons. Ad­mis­sion is free and there will be food and drinks on sale. The band Fethi Tabet was named af­ter its cre­ator, born in Al­ge­ria. Af­ter mov­ing to France in 1980, he rapid­ly be­came a ref­er­ence on the French then in­ter­na­tion­al mu­sic scene as a lutist and per­cus­sion­ist.

The group com­pris­es sev­en mu­si­cians and is based on a strong friend­ship, gath­er­ing mu­si­cians who are all or­ches­tra lead­ers with di­verse mu­si­cal in­flu­ences, from France, Tunisia, Mo­roc­co, Cameroon, Sene­gal, Mali and Brazil. Tabet's mu­sic is great­ly in­spired by a wide va­ri­ety of in­flu­ences, be it French, Span­ish, Mo­roc­can or sub-Sa­har­i­an, thus cre­at­ing warm, pow­er­ful and colour­ful com­po­si­tions.

The per­cus­sions and the choirs hold a cen­tral place while the vi­o­lin, the gui­tar, the ac­cor­dion and the sax­o­phones play bright melodies car­ried out by his wild lute. Tabet's in­com­pa­ra­ble voice sings life with emo­tion and hu­mour, cross­ing dif­fer­ent tra­di­tion­al and pop­u­lar Maghre­bian styles un­der the joint in­flu­ence of Africa, South Amer­i­ca and the Mediter­ranean.

From In­dia to Chi­na, via Africa, the Unit­ed States and the Mid­dle East, Fethi Tabet has al­ways re­ceived a warm wel­come. The ag­gre­ga­tion is cur­rent­ly on tour un­der the aegis of Al­liance Fran�aise of the Caribbean and will be in T&T just in time for the F�te de la Musique.
