The Alliance Franaise has once again joined forces with the Cott Foundation to produce the annual Fte de la musique concert. The event will take place on June 20, at Pier 1, Chaguaramas, from 5pm. There will be performances by Fethi Tabet, world music band from France.
Also on the cast are Mungal Patasar and Pantar, and young artistes from the Cott Checklist–Judah, Signature Blaze, Gittadan and Terri Lyons. Admission is free and there will be food and drinks on sale. The band Fethi Tabet was named after its creator, born in Algeria. After moving to France in 1980, he rapidly became a reference on the French then international music scene as a lutist and percussionist.
The group comprises seven musicians and is based on a strong friendship, gathering musicians who are all orchestra leaders with diverse musical influences, from France, Tunisia, Morocco, Cameroon, Senegal, Mali and Brazil. Tabet's music is greatly inspired by a wide variety of influences, be it French, Spanish, Moroccan or sub-Saharian, thus creating warm, powerful and colourful compositions.
The percussions and the choirs hold a central place while the violin, the guitar, the accordion and the saxophones play bright melodies carried out by his wild lute. Tabet's incomparable voice sings life with emotion and humour, crossing different traditional and popular Maghrebian styles under the joint influence of Africa, South America and the Mediterranean.
From India to China, via Africa, the United States and the Middle East, Fethi Tabet has always received a warm welcome. The aggregation is currently on tour under the aegis of Alliance Franaise of the Caribbean and will be in T&T just in time for the Fte de la Musique.
