T&T's top junior athletes were in fine form at the Morvant Jets Games at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo, on Saturday, as several attained the qualifying standards for the upcoming Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Junior Track and Field Championships. The Games were the final opportunity to make the national team for the 18th edition of the regional meet which will be held in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic from July 2-4. Simplex's Moriba Morain sped to a sprint double, taking the boys Under 20 100m and 200m.
He finished the 200m in 21.14 seconds, beating Deon Lendore of Abilene Wildcats and Concorde's Shermund Allsop for the top spot. Both clocked 21.55 with Lendore claiming the silver ahead of Allsop in a photofinish. Morain, who missed the Carifta Games in the Cayman Islands in April because of injury, then claimed the 100m title in 10.52 seconds ahead of Humming Bird's Sabian Cox (10.55) and Jamol James of Memphis (10.62). Morain surpassed the required standard in the 100m (10.65) and the 200m (21.40). Concorde's Jean Mark Constantine produced the most impressive run in the 100m, taking the Boys Under 17 title in 10.69 seconds ahead of the T&T's Youth Olympics representative Ayode Tafe of Petrotrin Pointe-a-Pierre, who clocked 10.82 seconds.
Both sprinters got off to blistering starts with Tafe taking the early lead but Constantine eased ahead in the final stage of the race and took the gold in a personal best. He was delighted after the win and was even more jubilant when he saw the time that appeared on the scoreboard. The standard for the Boys Under 17 is 10.90. Lendore returned to win the Boys Under 20 400m in 46.83, bettering the CAC Junior qualifying time of 47.80 seconds. He finished ahead of Concorde's Kishorn Dempster (47.89) and Osei Alleyne Forte of Southern Athletics (48.08). Neon Trackers' Sparkle McKnight won the Girls Under 20 One Lap in 54.62, beating the standard of 55.30 seconds, while Quantum's Machel Cedeno took the Boys Under 17 race in 49.30 which was inside the 49.50 qualifying mark.

Two time Carifta champion Kershorn Walcott of Toco won the Boys Under 20 Javelin with a throw of 66.02 metres, more than 10 meters over the standard of 55.25 m. In second was Dillon Thomas of Morvant Jets with 45.40m. QRC's Robert Collingwood won the Boys Under 20 Shot Put with a mammoth throw of 18.59 metres.
