The local men and women's beach volleyball teams, both failed to advance to the medal round of the sixth stop of the Fifth Norceca Beach Volleyball Circuit at Borqueron Beach, Puerto Rico on Saturday. In the women's tournament, the local duo of Nadiege Honore and Ayanna Dyette lost both their matches on the final day of round-robin play to teams from Mexican and USA.
After splitting their first two matches of Friday, with a win over Jamaicans Chrine Richards and Cheryl Daley (21-19, 21-16) and losing to Puerto Ricans, Yarleen Santiago and Dariam Acevedo (21-10, 21-12), the T&T women went under to Mexicans, Vanessa Virgen and Rosario Reyes 21-15, 21-16 and then went under in straight sets to USA-1 team of Tealle Hunkus and Heather Lowe 21-9, 21-17
In the women's competition the teams qualified for the semifinals were Puerto Rico 1 (Yarleen Santiago/Dariam Acevedo), Canada 1 (Heather Bansley/Elizabeth Maloney), Canada 2 (Julie Rodrigue/Katherine Zakrzewski) and USA1 (Tealle Hunkus/Heather Lowe). The local men's team of Fabien Whitfield and Daneil Williams did not fear any better as they were beaten by Puerto Rico-3 pair of Daniel Erazo and Erick Haddock in a close match 21-19, 22-20.
On Friday, the local boys were swept by USA's Tim Church and Camacho Dana 21-11, 21-18 and also by Guatemala's Erick Garrido and Julio Recinos, 21-13, 21-16. In the men's division the semifinalist pairs are Canada 1 (Samuel Schachter/Ray Sewell), Mexico (Ulises Ontiveros/Lombardo Ontiveros), Puerto Rico 1 (Orlando Irizarry/Robert Rodriguez) and Costa Rica (Jonathan Guevara/Alexander Villegas)
