Ryan Sabga won the senior category of the National Cycling Championship Road Race in San Fernando yesterday when he finished the 100-mile course in a time of four hours and four minutes. According to the T&T Cycling Federation's racing chairman Gregory Dandrade, the final points tally for the President's Cup was still being calculated by yesterday afternoon.
The race's runner up was Jovian Gomez, who won last Sunday's 25-Lap Road Circuit Ride around King George V Park in St Clair, with Marcus Carvallo in third. Adam Alexander, who began the day in the lead on ten points, missed his chance to be crowned "Road King of T&T" when he failed to complete the race.
Chris Sellier and Haseem McLean had also accumulated ten points before yesterday's race, but opted not to take part so that they could focus on training for October's Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, India.
Varun Maharaj won the 60-mile Junior Race to cop the overall title. He and the second placed Rudy Ashton had each entered the race on 20 points. (NC)
